the 1705 and the 1710 seem to be the exact same notebook in design, so my question is this....can u buy xps M1710 parts such as the LED lights, touch pad, and even the lid to the lcd off ebay, then put them on the E1705? it seems like it would be easy to do. maby even get the 7950gtx and put in there?

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
It would be a lot easier to just get the M1710. Especially if you try to go up to the GTX, you would more than likely spend considerably more money while totally voiding your warranty, like many notebook upgrades, yeah it can probably be done, but would it be practical to do so? most likely not.

I think the 9400 is missing the LED connectors, and I'm pretty unsure the 9400 BIOS would support the lights anyway.

I think the mobo and the accessories are almost the same. But it might be very troublesome. -
Warranty aside, the motherboards are different; M1710 has gigabit ethernet, while the E1705 does not. M1710 has the LED connectors, and I'm not sure if the E1705 does. LCD's are the same AFAIK.
That said, you can upgrade to the 7950GTX without changing motherboards, and you'll have yourself an XPS without gigabit LAN and the flashy lights for a fraction of the total cost. -
