ok... i started having major issues with my laptop getting errors out of no where stating that my hardrive cannot be found... it comes with a random black screen and a reboot. when i run dell diagnostics, it gives me an error and a code saying theres no hardrive.... i searched the forums, and found other people also had this issue. the problem is gone, when i turn off my laptop and turn it back on. if i restart, the problem is still there.

dell replaced my hardrive... things ran fine for 2 weeks and today the stupid problem came back. what i noticed, is that since i received this hdd, in the beginning everything loaded quick on start up, but as the days went on when the system is rebooted and it gets to windows, while all the start up programs are loading sometimes the computer is completely unresponsive (including the mouse, it cant be moved) and then all of a sudden everything is done loading.

i am talking to a dell chat person, and as usual, they tell me to run diagnostics etc.... the problem is, i ran this many times, and this error cannot be just recreated at will. now they are sending me a motherboard, and yet another hardrive....

seriously, what are the chances that two hardrives from DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS (toshiba and samsung) could be causing this issue? i doubt it. i ran memtest86, no problem there.... isnt it logical to assume its the motherboard thats causing this problem? can u guys think of any other possibilities? anyone have any connections within dell tech support that is good at this kind of stuff???

Wheeeel, if they do replace your motherbard and hard drive, there's very little else I can think of that would cause the issue. And chatting online like you did is probably your best bet. :)

i know the answer to this already, but just wanted to make sure..... when they replace my mobo and ram, i can still use my OLD hdd with the files on it without any issues right? provided that the mobo is exactly the same as my current one......i dont want to set up windows vista yet again and transfer files....

does dell send you all the exact same components, or do they substitute the mobo with a different model witout telling you?

Chances are very slim. I think that you either have a bad HD controller on the mainboard or the northbridge is overheating.

Could you post some load temps?

The only way they could do you dirty is to give you a board that is way old (R1) or give you a board with an 8400gs when you should have an 8600gt. If they should sub your GPU that is easy grounds for getting yet another board.

that CPU temp is worrisome... shouldn't go above 65degC for any reason

Personally I'd want to buy a copy of Spinright to take a look at the drive.
