It's not a model they currently sell new.
I'd push them for a current model on the grounds of support and whatever else you can think of as it sounds justified.
Even if you do get that machine it is a great laptop though so it's a win win really.

I would not accept as it is the older model and the resolution on the new screen is lower than your old laptop.

Well, compared to your older system, the l701x looks better in (almost) every way. But you gotta ask yourself - is your old one really worth a new L702x?

I'd say no, but then again, you may be able to wrangle with Dell to get a L702x, and if you can, try to haggle some more. But if this is Dell's final offer and you need to make a decision NOW . . . well, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

i wouldnt be too greedy. like xmacro said..."is your old one really worth a new L720x?" and it's really not so i kindof doubt that u can it

BUT, definately request a 1080p screen. you are entitled to that :p

Now that is a good replacement. Very fast quad core.

1-The L502X comes with your choice of 525m or GT540 if you go through the customizer. The 525m however is a good card.
    2-dunno

You will want them to give you a XPS 17 (L702x). You had a pretty high end cpu in your other laptop, so I would request at least a 2630QM or higher processor.

And make sure they give you the 1080p screen

I say go for it. It's not top-of-the-line, but that L502x is a very well-stocked system and it's leaps-and-bounds ahead of your current one.

You're getting a new system for free, so you can't expect them to give you everything; but they're offering you a very nice package

Why does it have to be a 17"? L502x is just fine as a replacement for the Studio XPS 16, and about the same size.

1-You can try overclocking to 540m speeds or higher like others here have successfully done.
2-1030 should be an okay card. It doesn't have as many antennas so the range might be smaller than Intel's 6200 series. I don't know what you had in the Studio XPS 16.
3-Warranty questions have to be answered by Dell. And if you get the answer in writing, you can show it to them later if a dispute arises.
    4-An information line. See #3
5-This is a pretty great build, especially as a replacement. And since you're getting it for free, you can easily upgrade certain components if you want, like the RAM (though 4 GB is probably just fine for you), a blu-ray drive, the wireless card, or more importantly perhaps, a new SATA3 SSD.

they keep insisting with me that they can not give me a 'new' system and that they do not currently have any 17" laptops with 1920x1080

I think they give out refurbished systems for replacement, and not much people have received their system let alone returning them. Might be the reason why.

I received a XPS 1502x as a replacement from and XPS M1530 that died in the beggining of february, they told me I was getting an XPS from the beggining and I received the XPS 1502X on 9 March, all the while I waited they would contact me and tell me that the reason it was taking so long is because the model I was getting wasn't out yet so it was still in production. I'm pretty sure I didn't get a refurb unit as far as I know at least., only thing is that I didn't get the Bluray drive that seems to be standard, but it's no problem with me.. So if they have it at least coming they should be able to offer you a 1702X, ask to speak to a supervisor that might help.

I would just like to add that I also emailed Michael Dell. I told the rep that contacted me, from day one, that I was not interested in an XPS replacement. That the whole experience with a $2000 laptop that had severe overheating/throttling issues had soured me against XPS. I told him I wanted an Alienware. His first offer was an XPS. I tactfully refused and responded with an AW build. I ended up with the Alienware and an extra 2GB of ram over my old system.

Don't settle for just anything. At least try to get what you want. We spend a lot of money with dell, when the product doesn't perform correctly, they try to make it right. Make sure that you feel satisfied with the replacement, if one is warranted!

And no refurbished L702X either and they were adamant with me that they absolutely only send out refurbished machines as replacements. So I don't know they tend to play games.

That is what is most important. In my case, my replacement was far better performance wise, than my 18month old SXPS.

I voluntarily gave up my BlueRay player (I used it 1 time in 18mos and it didn't work correctly) and they gave me an upgrade to 8GB of ram in its place.

You know if you machine is almost 2 years old and they give you a brand new replacement, the new machine will be much, much, better than the old machine. It is really hard to complain, IMHO, about any brand new replacement.
