Reading several reports of the xps 15 usb 3.0 not recognising devices after a certain amount of time connected....any reports of it here?...and if so is it sorted by an update?

Not a single problem. Use it all the time with different external hard drives, iPhone 4, USB flash keys, MX518 mouse, G15 keyboard, you get the point...
    Not a single problem.

    The iPhone 4 isn't usb 3.0. :p

    Neither is the MC518 mouse.

I think the OP means he is using USB 3.0 devices and that's where the problem is happening.

Yes, the 3.0 ports are backward compatible with 2.0 devices. The only issues I know are that if you also have a 2.0 device connected, the 3.0 devices will only run at 2.0 speeds, and having some devices connected will prevent the laptop from completing POST.

I use an external usb 2.0 drive and have had no issues with it or any other usb 2.0 devices. Everything works great.

Seriously? So if I have my USB mouse connected, a USB 3.0 external drive will transfer only at USB 2.0 speeds?

That's just what I read, and I don't know if that only applies to a USB 2.0 device in the other 3.0 port or any other port. I can test it tonight. I know my USB drive is at most half as fast at 2.0 speed so it will be easy to tell.

I have my wireless mouse dongle in the eSATA, and I haven't had any issues yet. My bluetooth wasn't working so I got it, and now that it is working, the wheel on the bluetooth mouse is so sensitive than it scrolls things when I am just moving the mouse so I just stick with the regular wireless one, especially since it doesn't have one of those huge dongles.

I still get 3.0 speeds with a 2.0 device in the other 3.0 port.

Mine works ok although technically it is the drive I replaced with the SSD in a 3.0 enclosure. I only get like 66MB/s although someone said maybe the controller chip in the enclosure isn't the greatest. Hopefully a drive actually made for USB 3.0 will be faster. Run CrystalDiskMark or another disk benchmark to see its transfer speed.

I got an XPS 15 less than a month ago. a couple days later the AC adapter was making a loud buzzing noise and I was getting a message about the voltage of the AC adapter being incorrect every time I started the computer. Then my mouse, which is connected to the USB port in the back stopped working every hour so I had to reboot. I'm very tired of this laptop, I'm returning it!.
