my 2 months old dell 1647 was sent to dell on 9/1 for repairs and back to me by 9/13. on the paper corrective repair action: cpu/fan/heatsink/mlb were checked by dell techky.
i meant i seen mobo get replaced quite often with the in home repair service, but this is probably the 1st time i have ever seen cpu replaced.
what happened is when i was playing wow on battery, computer got overheated and auto restarted, well it happends sometimes. but the computer
never recovered from this, it kept on restarting itself on windows loading screen, even when times i did managed to load into windows, computer would restart itself in 1 minute or 2. and the OS couldnt be reinstalled via dvd drive. dell factory build in repair didnt work, i cant never get to the option b4 computer restarted it self. what a mess so i had to call upon dell to send it back for repair.
yet this isnt a isolated incident, i ordered 2 dell studio 15s back in august, one of studio 15 showed exactly same behavior upon arrival. it restarts it self every so often , that studio 15 was exchanged for a working one.
my dell studio 1647 has i5-540m and that studio 15 has i3-2.26, personally i dont believe the problems were related to ever reliable intel chips. but dell technician did stated cpu wa replaced.
so whats your forumgoers opinions on this: intel cpu or poor written bios.

Call up Dell. I guess you only have depot service, which imho is horrible due to the fact that you will have no lappy for a while.
Monitor the temp and see what's going on also. Stuff like HW monitor should give you good info on what's going on with temps. -
is there a sign of BSOD ? you might want to go F8 and disable automatic restart to see if that is a BSOD . that sounds like a BSOD to me when you mention that the system keep on restarting itself on the windows loading screen
weird dell1647 brokedown: cpu or bios?
