    hi
i have got 250gb HD, where in the model of ma harddisk is
    FUJITSUMHZ2250BH G2 250gb@5400rpm drive

i tried to find the review of this Fujitsu harddisk but couldnt find :(
As i know here, most users xps comes with either segate, samsung or WD.

how about the performance impact of these harddisk including my Fujitsu,

my harddisk makes noise whenever its the scanning n searching, its kinda annoying, sounds like its dying, but can hear sound at night times as the background noise is pretty quiet.

i did defrag, n also checked in bios, the status is set to bypass, after reading several post regarding harddisk.

once i changed the settings in bios from bypass to performance mode, then the performance of my harddisk become sluggish n slow, later in i set the settings to default mode which was in bypass, it works ok now, but still hear sounds some kinda of crackling sound, n the hd light keep up.

i have tried disabling the search n indexing option from vista. but nothing works, i can hear sound still,

have you guys got this fujitsu harddisk with your xps? i d like to know the performance of this harddisk?

is there anyway to reduce the noise, the noise is similar to those desktop pcs krackling sound.

    thx

Sometimes its normal.. and you should also remember that you hear more from laptop' because they are so tightly packed and also with the slim feature of XPS M1530, you are bound to hear from noise.. I have WD and I am happy with it.. most of the time its silent.. when its writing or reading something or when a scan is going on or when I defrag I hear the normal sound expected of a hard disk.. I dont know if you are hearing more than the normal levels... but I would guess some bit of noise would be there..

On a fresh install of Vista (yours is fresh as its still new from the factory) the OS will do quite a bit of indexing (its building the index) - this is normal and expected. I wouldn't worry about it. As for the performance mode, you might want to give that another try. I have yet to come across a report of this having a negative impact on new drives.

    Your Hard Drive is HERE.

Take a look at this PAGE for additional performance tweaks.

    hi batboy

today i did installed NHC n checked, the specification of my HD it said fujitsu harddisk, n the controller type was ide, does it mean that i aint have sata drive.

as for installation, i did format n created new partitions n installed ultimate with sp1, as for the guide that has give in NBR community i followed that, before formating i did installed AHCI support for my harddisk then kick started the installation.

but i havent installed the intel's turbo memory.

when i installed AHCI then i got into system/device manager/harddisk n selected properties i did see an option saying enable advance performance mode, if i select it will enable at the time, then again if i go back n check, it will be automatically unchecked. whats wit this?

then i figured it out, then i installed the intel turbo memory from the dell driver cd, now i can enable the advanced perfomance mode. n its stays forever.

my question is whats the difference between AHCI n Intel's Turbo memory?

right now im in AHCI mode, coz as i installed vista ultimate again using the method show in NBR. i dint installed that intels turbo memory.

coz i cant use AHCI N Turbo memory at the same time.
if i install turbo memory i can enable the advanced performance mode in device manager for my harddisk. but if install turbomemory the AHCI will be disabled.

if i install AHCI then im unable to check the advanced performance mode. eventho if i check that mode, it will atuomatically uncheck itself.

i just wanted to know the difference between AHCI n Intels Turbo memory?
    which one is the best?

Intel Turbo Memory requires a PCI-E minicard be installed. See this link for details on where it would be installed on the 1530.

A shame your HDD is making too much noise, although I think that's subjective. My Hitachi is doing fine I actually have to put my ear on chassis to hear the fans and HDD. My slot loading drive on the other hand can make some noise on loading but not while I'm running its contents. :) Good luck though, call Dell and complain to them and see if they give you a better one.

My 200GB 5400 RPM WD does great. Almost no noise.

Mine came with TOSHIBA MK1652GSX 160GB. It makes a lot of noise when reading/writing data.

My HDD is same as yours (FUJITSU MHZ2250BH ) but it’s very quite. But performance wise (transfer rate) when compare with Hitachi and Samsung, Fujitsu is the slowest.
Samsung is the noisiest with the loud infamous “KLACKK!!” sound.

I don't know about WD and Seagate.
