Unless your ambient temps are really, really low, or your fan is working really, really hard, 48C isn't high.

That's pretty good, actually. My idle temps are usually in the 50s C, pushing 60C, when the fan is off. Usually around 52C with the fan on low.

I'm not at my xps 15 (l521x) right now (3rd gen Core i7 cpu), but I seem to recall the cpu temps being in the 50-60C range with no-fan activity and light use. Running something like wPrime95 I've seen the temps go up as high as 99C with the fans running full speed.

Room ambient temp runs 20-25 C.

If you guys still use the laptop with the thermal paste the laptop came with i suggest you to repaste .

I did this and my temps are now lower with about 10-12 C

I used Noctua NT-H1 for this and now my idle temperatures are 46-51 C , before the repaste they were around 58-62 C

In heavy load ( game ) before repaste temperatures was like 93-94 C and now it cant reach even 80 C

mine l502x is with i5 2430 and its only 15 but am pretty sure there will be high temperature drop in your laptops too if u change the thermal paste :)

This voids most warranties though, so consider that your last resort if you are still under warranty. Clean the thing with canned air first.

yeah, it maybe void the warranty.. dunno, but my warranty is 4 years and theres so much time.. :) there is a way to send it to the service for maintenance but i cant be sure if they will put 15$ thermal paste instead of some garbage . Actually am pretty sure they will use some cheap paste.. and the laptop was perfectly clean when i opened it after 6-7 months of use. This maintenance here is around 20 Euro .. i paid more for thermal paste and nice set of screw drivers but am sure my results worth it :)

Yeah, I was considering the repaste job myself with my l502x since I'm out of warranty. Heck, I just tore my mini 10v completely down to do the 2gb ram upgrade. The only thing is, I would be a bit uncomfortable doing it since I rely on this machine while I'm at school, and the cost of it was significantly more than the 10v...lol
