1- what is the difference ?
2- what is the best ?
3- what is the one able to play most games ?
-
1. Nothing
2. Both
3. They can both play every single game out....
(If you can't get my humour, both cards are EXACTLYTHESAME) -
The second one appears to have double the amount of dedicated video RAM, so I would say that the one below is better (the XP one >_>).
I am also a little confused.. does the m1530 have two versions of the card, a 512MB and 256MB version, or is it just XP and Vista detecting the same card differently? -
-
If it's the same price I would still get the 512MB one unless you're thinking of overclocking.
-
For no apparent reason, (and if the same price) i would pick the 512mb as well ...
Although its pretty clear that the 8600m gt would not be able to utilise anything after the 256mb. -
They are the same card.... on XP, the 8600M GT sees 256MB of the onboard card memory and uses 256 of the Motherboard memory. It runs great though in XP. If you question it, just look up the card in everest or a similar program.

Usually, the 512MB version has DDR2 memory while the 256MB version has GDDR3 one. This can make a 20% difference in performance.
You should check that out ; it's the only difference there could be between those two. -
hello
the 512 one i can see it 256 in bios and also in GPU-Z
and its GDDR3 too
but both windows xp and vista see it 512
pls advice
thx -
where is the experts?
-
Well first I don't even know if they offer the 512 mb version of the card on the m1530's but I could be mistaken. You want to go with the 256 mb version because it uses GDDR3. The 512 uses GDDR2. As someone posted earlier, there is a noticeable difference in performance. One of the main reasons I purchased this laptop is because they offered this specific videocard. The short answer is that the 256 mb version is better. Next time do some searching because this issue has been answered multiple times on numerous other threads.

AFAIK the XPS M1530 was never offered with the 512Mb version of the 8600GT, and as everyone else has said many many times, the 512Mb appears because of the additional 256Mb of shared memory.

The amount of on board memory doesn't make a difference, it's the speed that it runs at.
Meaning 256 GDDR3 will be a lot faster then the 512 DDR2, simply because of faster throughput. The video card will utilize shared ram anyway.
I think all m1530's shipped with the GDDR3 version of the card. -
ram is complete
and my card as sown gddr3
is that the better one? -
If yours is the GDDR3 version then yes, you have the better card.
-
the m1530 only comes with the 8600gt 256mb GDDR3 RAM, the other 512 is probably just a software error, or just a different computer
what is the best of nividia 8600GT ?? need yout experience
