WHT? there is nothing to compare to the XPS in 15"..if you're doing cad work you might go that way..if not maybe wait for the Vostro Inspirons..they look promising..if not the current 15 and 17 have a $500 coupon off, but only in the US.. the closet you'll get in performance to the 17" XPS is the 17" E1705, the 15" E1505 inspirons just don't have that performance..it's like comparing apples and oranges..

    What about the Compal HEL80?

EDIT: I know it is not close to a 17" laptop, but it is good for a 15.4" laptop.

"My bad'' means my mistake..a slang..
I'm replying to your email to me..I'll break it down slowly..
this thread is all about the new NB's:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=127503

1-Dell is replacing the e1505/e1705 inspiron line with upgraded models
E1520/2 and E1720/1 with different variations to these models including one called VOSTRO and possibly "MANTRA" ( Also, and from what i read there's going to be an upgraded 17" XPS NB..I know you don't want a 17" but i'm giving you the info as of now)..Different then what is offered today as you can only get the E1505 with different hardware configurations..there isn't much news coming from dell but some has leaked to the net. specs upgraded is DX10 cards and the new santa rosa cpu's by intel..The new laptops seem to have heat problems dealt with comparedto the current 17" and possible 15" (not sure) and This looks quite promosing as the E1505 was great in every respect except the GPU-graphics processing unit..this takes it up a notch by finally shoving a gaming worthy GPU as many who wanted to 15" with performance was forced to upgrade to the 17" for the 7900GS card, this is true for me as well..is this what you wanted to know? When will it be announced? roughly in a month from what I read..IMO you might wait and see the prices otherwise if you have enough of it, IMO the M65 is still one hell of a NB and you can do no wrong..an excellent screen excellent GPU.. super fast!!

oh btw, if you still want XP the M65 can ship with XP..just a thought..

I'm not familiar with the Precision line, but according to Nvidia's website, the Quadro FX350M is their lowest end card of that line of GPUs. Is it possibly lower than the Ati X1400 of the E1505?

The refreshed Inspiron 6400, due to come out in August, at the earliest. It will be offered with a 8600M GT, if rumours are true. Even a 8600GS would be far better than what dell offers in it's 15" models right now.

The FX350 M is based on a Go7300, and is about half as weak as the X1700.

Well, other reports claim an end of June, beginning of July date for the release of the new Inspiron 1520.

I don't understand the difference between the Latitude and Precision lines though.

The precision lines have workstation graphics cards that have official support for industrial programs like CAD, 3DS MAX, Maya, etc.

I doubt it. I can't think of any other 14.1" laptops sold as graphics "workstations", though I'm not certain that there aren't any.

Can you please explain? Im not sure but I think both the e1705 and the 1710 have subwoofers..cosmetics and pretty flashing lights aside...the insiprion1705
is practically similiar to the xps but I noticed 2 differences..The XPS offered a larger size 7200rpm hd..and it offered the geforce7950gtx512mb card as an option, for a $500 upgrade over the 7900gs. So you're going to pay an extra $1,000 minimum for an xps with the same exact parts sans the 7950gtx card..of which there is never any deals going on for the xps line besides no interest for 12 months (big whoop)..

Does that mean that the M1710 prices are going to rocket or will they stay the same? I want to get this notebook but might wait until the refreshed version is coming out if its only 1 months time!

Can anybody confirm this or is it just a rumour and has no truth to it?
