so i have a m1710 coming in the mail, and i know it has the feature to OC in the bios but i read online that only the t7600G can be oc'd... is this true? can you only overclock the t7600g, not even the t7600? i thought it was a feature where you could OC anything. and another question... why can i put a x9000 processor in my m1330, but not the m1710....?

If you want to OC in BIOS, only the t7600g is supported. Period.

Obviously if you want to use more exotic OC procedures (PLL, etc), you can probably use other chips, but I'm no expert on that.

As for X9000/T7600... what sort of explanation are you looking for? They're simply not physically or electrically compatible with each other...

I was thinking the m1710 came out after the m1330 so i was thinking why would an extreme processor not fit in a newer xps? thank you for the information!

The m1710 is a year older than the m1330.

... And uses really similar hardware than the Inspiron 9400 (Inspiron e1705 in the US).

Meaning the GPU are interchangeable, RAM, CPUs... etc...

However, the Inspiron's bios doesn't provide oc functions, so cannot take advantage of these featues, unique to the T7600g
