The audio for my Dell XPS 1330 pops and skips whenever I play music. (It doesn't seem to do this when I watch DVDs.) Dell has worked through a couple of options, with no luck. The motherboard was completely replaced about two months ago for an unrelated problem, but that did not fix the audio issue. Dell thinks that this could be a spyware problem and has asked that I re-install Vista, but I am doubtful that this will solve the problem. (The computer had this problem when it came from the manufacturer.) I have a sneaky suspicion that the hard drive doesn't have enough memory, and that the skips and pops happen when the hard drive is being accessed. But I have no way to test this theory, and I admit that I really have no idea what I am talking about here. (With 3 GB, memory should not be an issue.) Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

    So -

You haven't replaced any of the software but have replaced all the hardware related to audio?

Logic would lead me to believe it's software related then. Whether it be bad codecs/drivers or a crappy program or something interferring.

Have you uninstalled the driver software completely and reinstalled it? Obviously with reboots inbetween.

What are you using to play it back with? Try something like VLC and see if it helps.

And why so reluctant to reinstall the OS? I realize it's one of the first recommendations they give for crap but in your case with all the hardware being swapped it's what I'd be looking at.
