My xps 1330's battery just went completely dead (past the one year warranty period obviously) and considering how stupidly expensive the dell replacements are, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with non-official replacements. Some places seem to sell a generic version of that battery for about half the price. So the question I'm asking myself now is: 'what's the catch?'

Thanks in advance for any input.

I would recommend the refrigeration method. My friend recently had her dell battery die on her. Ordered her a generic battery, and after a day it died. Had it replaced and is working fine. It occurred to me to try the refrigeration method on the dead battery. After a three days in the freezer and 2 days outside. It started to charge again. It seem to work better then before it died. So if you can bare without a better for 5 days, like you have a chose really. You should give the refrigeration method a try. The generic seems to work good except for the first battery incident.

I certainly have nothing to lose by trying it. It seems weird to me that freezing a battery would bring it back to life, but I'll give it a shot and report back. In the meantime, anyone else have good or bad experiences with generic batteries?

    Hey there!
I tried to check and see if there were any *coupon codes* you could use at dell.com, or even small business on a battery..but no go :(

Do you have access to Dell EPP? If, so you can save the 7%, then a additional 4% if you pay by Dell DPA....I didnt know what battery you were looking at..the 6C or 9C. I priced the 6 cell at $149.99.

Personally, I prolly wouldn't use a generic batt'...some have had luck, some not. I'd rather have something backed up w/a warranty, etc. The battery plays such an intricate part with your lappy!

Here are some threads for you to check, I pulled together! :)

    Ebay Link

I recently bought a used official one. I would expect these to last longer than the third party generic ones.

Well the freezer trick didn't work so I'm buying a new battery. I think I'll just bite the bullet and get an official one from dell.

Too bad..maybe a good idea. That way you have a good warranty on it, etc :)

Maybe tomorrow, there will be a coupon link for accessories specific to the batt's. ;)

I bought a Chinese knockoff 9-cell for my Studio 15, and it's been great. The only problem is that it came missing one of the rubber feet, so the back of the laptop slides a bit more than I would like on hard smooth surfaces, but the battery itself works great.
