Scared off by the NVIDIA card problems, I'm looking at buying the xps 1330 with the intel intergrated card.
1) will the new bios updates back this system's fans run so often that it looses battery length, or does the bios distinguish between the nvidia and intel versions of the computer?
2) will the intel card still be able to run aero and infrequent video editing (small project once a month, i.e. picture slide shows with cool graphics 2 - 4 minutes in length?)
thanks!

2) definitely.... the x3100 card is actually a good integrated card
1) not sure, think the fan speed is triggered by temperature... but u dont really need to worry that much about the integrated card, since it runs much cooler and doesnt reach temps like 95C -

I actually don't think the nVidia problem is that big of a deal anymore. It's limited in the number of Dells and they're already making a revised version of it. Regardless, the M1330 will still run warm even with the X3100 since it still has ventilation issues, but not as hot as the 8400 of course. As long as you're not a hardcore modern gamer you should be good to go with the integrated card. Good luck with your purchase

Since XPS has a design issue in terms of ventillation, even the integrated one seems to heat up a little but with extreme gaming or media processing, my friend has this issue.

1) Its only for a small bit of time, but technically, though insignificantly, yes. Because the largest amount of heat change occurs during startup, fans are set by the bios to kick in as soon as it starts up, then later on kick on depending on the temperatures, which kick in at a lower temp with the latest bios, however despite this, I only got about 10 minutes of battery life shaved off on my M1530 with 8600GT... so... you shouldn't have a problem at all.
2) yes definitely, it is able to everything just fine except for CADD or any heavy 3D gfx rendering. Its even good enough for basic gaming.

It can help you lower your temps by quite a few degrees.
The M1530 is well ventilated, though the same can't be said for the 1330. At least theres a fix for it. -
I purchased the m1330 yesterday but canceled my order because i had the nvida geforce as my video card. Does anyone with the intel 3100 video cards have any problems with over heating? right after i ordered it, i went on youtube and saw a flood of folks having major problems with there 1330.
