So i have a xps 1340 that needs replacing.

All set on a xps 14z. all very sexy and powerful and nice dedicated graphics. Then comes the xps 13!
very excellent battery life but no dedicated graphics.

But do i really need dedicated graphics???

I surf and watch films / streamed TV
I use it for powrpoint with embedded video files and have to convert lots of video files for above.

I like the idea of dedicated graphics but in this day and age of I7 processorsdo i need one for what i do or would i be better off saving some money

    many thanks in advance

Sounds like you don't need a dedicated graphics card at all. They're generally only useful for gaming and other 3D applications. Not to mention that the current Intel graphics aren't bad at all.

All that said, you might be able to find something better if you post in the "What notebook should I buy?" forum.

I can't say that the dedicated 520 nvidia is good one. It is not good for gaming and only 40% better than integrated one. Cause there is at least 2 times better video cards available on the market. So xps 13 will be good for you, if you don use Ethernet, and you don't need more usb and hdmi ports .

    Thanks for the replies,

not too bothered about only 2 usb ( thats all i have at the moment) but the Ethernet could be a problem. I presume that there is hdni via mini display port?

Oh yeah, so hdmi will not be a big problem. But still i forgot that you can buy external ethernet card connected via usb .

Well the xps 13 has just been released in the UK and is way more expensive than the xps14z so the choice is made.

just wondering if its worth buying the 750gb hdd version and then swapping out the dvd drive to put in a ssd

    any thoughts?
