why is my brand new xps 16 slow as hell ? It is slower than my four year old pentium desktop.

i scanned and there are no viruses, spyware, etc.

    -opening programs take forever
-i cant listen to music while browsing the internet or the songs will skip every 2 seconds
-web videos skip and are basically unwatchable
-as i am typing this, no letters are coming up...i have to wait about a minute for the text to load to see if i misspelled anything.
-i hear a clicking sound from the hdd every so often

-i have the basic windows theme(no aero)
-startup programs have been cut down to just the basics
    -what is going on?

This sounds to me like a fresh windows install.
Did you install drivers for the graphics card? - when I reinstalled Windows XP it was slow like that. After installing drivers everything worked just great!

Your hard-drive is dying, why your performance is so bad.

did you clone your drive or fresh install? cloned drive might have brought over some corrupted data or something shrug

yeah i forgot about this thread, but anyways I did a fresh install of windows 7.

it starts out fine, then after a little while it gets insanely slow. So i try shutting down programs until there are no applications running. That does nothing, it still stays up at the 80-100% cpu range when nothing is going on. Also, my 'free' memory from task manager is only about 300 at most!
