I have a xps 1640/p8700/4670 with win 7 home on it. This started to happen after I updated from vista 64 to win 7. After turning the system on it goes into the windows startup screen with the animating glows over black background- all good but 50% of the time the screen then goes to solid black with the white arrow cursor on it and hangs with either no or occasional activity from the HD light. I then have to hard shut off the system with the power button and then restart to try again. When I'm successful, instead of it hanging on the black screen after the startup screen, I get the blue win 7 splash screen with the round circle cursor.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    thanks

Backup your data, format and re-install windows 7.
