Hi my xps 17 shipped today looked at the service tag and it states the lcd as

HC9GK LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 17.3FHD, WLED, LVDS, AG, Z, CHI MEI OPTOELECTRONICS..

From some reading I was under the assumption the north american orders were shipping with a glossy screen.

Yea, you're 1080 non-3d screen should be matte. I just mine today and I live in the US. It got shipped from Chicago. Not sure if yours will be shipped from Chicago too but that is where mine was shipped from.

Positive. I am typing on it right now. The way I noticed actually was I got it this afternoon and I usually use my laptop on the dinner table which is right in front of a big window. My Alienware M11x, which my XPS 17 is replacing, has a glossy screen and every time I use it I have to pull down the window shade.

Well I got the XPS 17 out of the box and turned it on, while it was booting I was about to pull down the window shade but then I looked at the screen and noticed it is matte. So yea the non-3d 1080 screen is definitely anti-glare/matte. Or atleast mine is.

I haven't done much with it so far yet. Watched a few HD youtube videos and that is about it. So far I am impressed. Only other 17" 1080 display I have used was on a Asus G73JH. I had the G73JH for about 4 months but I sold it a few months ago. I personally think the 17" non-3d screen on the l702x is better than the one on the G73JH.

My opinion on screen quality might not be very accurate though because from when I sold the G73JH until recently I have been using an Alienware M11x R1, which the l702x is replacing, and it has a 1366x768 screen.

Yes, my l702x has a 17" non-3d 1080 display and is matte. My order date was 4/4. So it took 2 weeks and 4 days from order to delivery. Shopping experience has been fairly easy but I kind of had to buy 2 XPS 17s just to get the one I want.

When I ordered this XPS 17 on Dell's website I could only choose 6gb ram or more and 650gb hdd or bigger. Well a week after I ordered I went back to Dell's website just to mess around with XPS 17 configs because I was bored and noticed I could now get 4gb ram and a 500gb hdd. I want that because ram and hdd I can replace myself and not have to pay Dell's outrageous price.

So I called Dell and told the rep that I want to change the config because it wasn't available when I first ordered. They said all they can do is offer me a refund if I buy another XPS 17. So that's what I did and what I am going to do. I am going to ship this XPS 17 back to tomorrow and hopefully get my refund credited back to me before my other XPS 17 gets shipped. 2 XPS 17s will hurt my bank account bad! :D

    XPS 17 config:
    17" 1920x1080 non-3d matte display
    i7 2630qm
    6gb ram
    650 hdd
    gt 555m
    intel 1030 wireless card
    backlit keyboard

If you click the "Help Me Choose" link next to the display config page, and click "Compare Side-By-Side," it tells you that it's antiglare.
Dell - Help Me Choose: Display

The final configuration list mentions "AG" which means antiglare. "TL" would mean TrueLife/Glossy.

Still, they don't really make it all that obvious to the customer though.

Why does everyone prefer matte over glossy? Isn't glossy better for watching movies, photo editing, etc?
