Would this be considered a good deal? I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger. Thanks.

Bear in mind that the $999 config of the m1730 only comes with a single 8700m gt card. To get dual 8800gtx/9800m gt's you'd have to pay an additional 600-700 dollars. Which would probably bring us back to square one. If you're happy with the single 8700m gt then I'd suggest targeting other brands that offer faster montevina platforms and somewhat better gpu options for roughly the same price.

Well, Just shoot for one, I did and all I have to say is that i'm happy. Not yet ture but maybe Dell isn't going to be launching anymore gaming rig laptops! The gaming laptops would be to Alienware's. This might be the last of the XPS gaming laptops! HP, gave theirs to Vodoo and so might Dell and AW.

Alienware is owned by Dell. It's just re-branding their own products. What used to be called the M1730 will evolve into the M17, with a new brand name and logo.

Near as I can tell, the $999 config actually has 8700M GTs in SLI, which is a pretty sweet setup for that price...

How do you know that? In Dell's website I can see that it has only one, just watch at the VRAM wich is 256 MB GDDR3, it should be 512 MB GDDR3 (2 x 256) if it was SLI setup.

Go to the customize page, every single configuration that I can see features dual video cards, with the base level being 2 8700M GTs.

At the time of my previous post, the $999 config only had a single 8700m gt. But since Dell US changes its price/config variations every so often, it appears the current one carries with it the SLI version. Probably as i post this they're changing it yet again... lol

Anyways, the 8700m gt isn't that good a card, and the boost it gives your games in SLI configuration is somewhat dismal in comparison with laptops that sport single 9800m/8800m cards. And a game doesn't have SLI support, well, lets just leave it at that. :)
