does anybody know what happened to this card as an option? i dont see it on the dell page anymore, but i ordered it with my xps 14. I'm assuming its the reason my laptop hasnt left production yet.

I ordered it as well and I'm still "In Production" . I presume though, that they allocated what they had in stock as orders were taken and only removed the option once stock was depleted. At least, I hope that's the case.

I'm really hoping thats it, I read a post from somebody that there wasn't a need for the third antenna or something like that

You might as well get the 6200 if your only gonna use 2 antennas.

Somebody posted earlier that it the new XPS systems only had 2 antennas, making the 6300 pointless. How many antennas the systems has isn't determined by the wireless card, but by how many antennas are routed through the chassis (usually around the display in the upper lid).

And it does I believe, when configuring an XPS 15 on the AU dell site, you must choose "Anodized Aluminium LCD Back Cover (for WWAN/6300 wireless/Tv)" if you want the TV tuner OR 6300 wifi, if you leave the standard cover sselected and then select the 6300 card you get "The 6300 Wireless Card is compatible with WWAN Back Cover. Pls Select WWAN Back Cover"... from this I can only presume you need to choose this lid as it has the 3 antenna's built in.

    Hope this helps :)

Good info! thanks for posting that. unfortunetly that wasnt an option on the US customization page. god i hope somebody in the factory has some brains and puts the right lid on it.

do we know if anybody in the US has got(received) a 6300 in any of the xps configurations?

I'm sure they would put the right parts on, take a quick look at the manual via the dell support site (the manual for tech rapair agents, not the user manual) and I think it's outlined in there. I would say if it's being offered they would have to ensure it's installed to run at full spec.

In one of my older laptops you can actually see the wifi card with the bottom off, and the antenna connections coming from it, this may be the case with the newer machines, check out the repair manual!

Ya, just looking to see if the description included WWAN instead of WLAN.

O well, I guess we'll find out for sure soon enough. Not a big deal for me, I think I paid $20 extra to go with the 6300 over the 6200.

Although, as mentioned, you would just assume that Dell would install the required # of antennaes. Very interesting though, that the 6300 is no longer offered at any Dell website in any country that I look.

According to the hp site, WWAN is a mobile broadband3 option. I 'played' with the Dell UK webiste to see what having a WWAN lid requires. I found that it requires barodband. This is what it says: "Errors:
The Colour Option that you have selected requires you to select a Mobile Broadband Card ( like ATT Internal Mobile Broadband Card) ."

Moreover, both my canceled order of the XPS 15 (with the 6300) and my current order (with the 6200) list the lid as "Metalloid Aluminum (WLAN) L501X"

I e-mailed the CEO who put me in charge with someone from India who had an engineer call me to answer this question and he said it comes with 3 antennas. He also stated there would be an additional antenna for the Bluetooth 3 option. That should make the total 4 antennas.

However, I don't believe anything anyone from India says as they've proven their lack of knowledge numerous times (first guy told me 2 antennas do the work of 3). I'm also mindful that Dell India is the cheap option, not the quality option. (All Canadian calls go to India, no way around this).

Anyway, if someone gets the 6300 and can open the chassis and take a look then we can have it confirmed. Otherwise I'm sure we'll all be demanding our money back.

hmmm.. im not sure how you asked the question but it makes a huge difference. ive learned to avoid any kind of leading questions, because otherwise the person on the other end of the line will just enforce your beliefs instead of actually getting you the right answer; "i was wondering if this laptop actually comes with three antennas" vs "i was wondering how many antennas this laptop is equiped with. from experience you get very different answers depending on the phrasing

This is totally true. I noticed it's no longer available for order so I've e-mailed the two people I spoke with to inquire why.

    Hello,

Anyone who's ordered an XPS with Centrino 6300, have you received yours yet?

Just curious if the 6300's are shipping at all. Thanks.

Hmm, that is very interesting! I am in Australia and ordered my XPS 15 back on November 11 and I was able to configure it with a lid design and still include the 6300 wifi. Although, in saying that, I checked my order status this morning and it was gone from "Work in Progress" EDD - 1 December 2010 to, "Order received, it may take up to 3 business days for your EDD....blah blah", so it looks like they may have cancelled my order and reordered :(

Ok, so at least one person has taken delivery. :)

My EDD hasn't changed yet, though not sure what to expect since it's only a few days away.

Anyone else take delivery of an XPS with the 6300??

Were you able to determine the number of installed antennas?
