    Hello,

I've been looking for an Air/Auto/AC adapter for my Dell m1530. I am unsure if there is such an item or if the third party non-dell AC adapter makers have the right power tips for the Dell XPS m1530 notebook.

Anybody have such an AC adapter? Please advise me of brand, power tip availability. Thank you.

I'd like to know that as well. I'd love to get an Air/Car/AC adapter but can't find one that says it's compatible.

    Strongly recommend this :
    http://us.kensington.com/html/13874.html

Tip is N19 and I believe this tip is included in the package, not 100% sure though. Have been using this on both of my M1330 & M1530 at home, office and on airplanes. You can find this factory refurbished at Ebay at a very cheap price; that's where I got mine. Just look for a good seller. Good luck.

Thanks for linking to my review. The reason I didn't suggest this adapter to the OP is because Dell XPS M1530 notebook uses two types of AC adapter: 65W and 90W. The Dell Slim Auto/Air/AC Adapter is recommended only for Dell XPS M1530 notebooks that use the Standard 65W AC adapter.

How do I know if the M1530 that I have coming to me uses the 65 or the 90?

If you have an 8600GT, you must use a 90watt power supply. A 65watt will not work.

    I got this one:

    XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB 2M L2 Cache)

So is mine 65w? Will it work with the Dell travel adapter above?

You need to check the video card, the cpu speed is not what matters.

Dell XPS M1530 notebook when configured with a 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS video card, will require a 65W AC adapter and when configured with a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card, will require a 90W AC adapter.

As the Dell Slim Auto/Air/AC Adapter is a 65W adapter specifically made for notebooks that require 65W power, notebooks that require 90W power will operate slower and the battery will take a long time to charge than it would with a standard 90W adapter.

Hence, for a Dell XPS M1530 notebook with a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card, the Dell Slim Auto/Air/AC Adapter is not recommended due to the above mentioned issues.

If you are interested in the adapter, you will find my review helpful.

SWEET, I have the 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M. I'm guessing that means my slim adapter for my 1505 will work fine.

Oh and I read your review, nice job. :)

    i have a m1530 with the 256mb Geforce 8600 GT ...

Has anyone found a 90watt car/air adapter? I would settle for just a car (12v cig lighter) adapter .. but would love to have a home/car/air adapter of course.

I was eyeing this one in best buy:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8488601&st=mobile+power&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1186003681893

    90w constant 130w peak .. with a 12foot length (!!!!)
It says it comes with a bunch of S nn tips.. but ours is N19?
Also, their " tip compatibility engine" does not show any tips working with our m1530...

Any other 3rd party ideas? If not, I guess the best bet is directly from Dell. Doesn't seem too expensive.. but anyone know if car/air/wall or just car/air?

    Car/Air/Wall...

when i ordered my M1530 (w/ 256MB 8600GT), I ordered one of those travel chargers also. They sent me the same 65w version, as there is no 90w version. I have not been able to use it yet, as my laptop was delayed. I already recieved my car charger though, and it does have car/air/wall attachments, although the wall powercord is rather short.

Untrue. I have the 8600 video card in mine and the 65W adapter works, although when you power up the notebook using the 65W adapter, it tells you that you are only running 65W and your power (read: performance) will be reduced while using it.

I really wish Dell would just make a slim adapter that could do 90W like the one I see Lenovo (IBM) makes for their thinkpads. It'd be so much nicer than keeping that behemoth 3-prong adapter that it came with in my bag.

    Hi Guys,

I know this thread is older but I didn't find a more relevant one.

I'm getting an M1530 this week with an 8600M GT in it so I'm assuming I would need a 90w car adapter. It seems that Dell does not make one of these and I didn't see any clear recommendations on other brand ones.

Does anyone here have any experiences or recommendations on 90w+ car adapters for the M1530?

    Thanks!

I got this Universal 100W Universal Adapter (Targus APM12) which can be powered by AC/AIR/CAR for only $32.99 from Geeks.com Yes the included Tip S35 actually charges the battery in the XPS1530 as it includes the smart chip to communicate the power rating to the notebook. Other Universal adapters might only be able to power the notebook, but the notebook refuses to charge the battery.
I think its out of stock at Geeks.com right now, but you can google Targus APM12 you might find it available at other merchants.

Example: (Note: I have not dealt with this vendor )
    http://www.utekpc.com/view-item.php?src=F14&sku=UTEKAPM12-BULK-R

Yes its refurbished but it looks brand new and all tips are new.

As info, I got this one from utekpc for $38.50 + $9.00 shipping.

Unfortunately it does not contain the S35 tip even though it says it does. I got T1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S7, S12, T5, and S20. S20 looks like S35. S20 comes as part of one of the 70W chargers and Targus lists S20 as being for the XPS 1210 as a part that will power the 1210 but not charge it. I'm going to have to get the S35 tip to make this work.

geeks.com now lists the APM12 as being back in stock for $32. A better deal than utekpc.
