Probably never, the M1210 will most likely be phased out for a similar model based on the santa rosa platform.

I wouldn't say that. The XPS M1210 is a new design, and is barely a year old. If anything, Dell has shown that they like sticking with designs. The current Latitude line has withstood the switch to Santa Rosa and DX10, and the Inspiron line has been out for years, going through an entire platform/processor change.

I would really expect to the XPS M1210 to get an 8400M or 8300M within the next few months.

I think the point people are trying to make is:

The Xps M1210 won't, but the XPs M12 20 or whatever the new model is will.

Exactly, as stated earlier there will most likely be a "similar" model complete with santa rosa and DX10, new models emerge when new platforms emerge. The basic design will probably remain, but the innards will be different, and the model name will reflect the change.

Hopefully the new model will be lighter and have a LED screen.

If they equip the next XPS 12xx with 1GB Intel Turbo Memory & at least a GeForce 8400M GS, I will buy it.

Ok, I understand now. It's a bit misleading to say that though. It will still be the same computer, just with a number changed. It's still pretty much the same thing.

Guys, I was just about to pull the trigger on the Dell M1210 ... then I heard about this Santa Rosa stuff.

I'm not a hardcore geek, so I admit I have no idea what Santa Rosa is or why I should care.

So I will just ask .. if I can wait a couple of months, should I hold off?

Or is not a big deal for a light laptop user (a few biz trips per year) like me?

    Thanks, Steve

I dont agree, If its a new platform, (santa rosa) how can it be the same? Even if you keep everything else the same, you will still have the new platform enhancements, what your saying pretty much sums up to me that I should be able to sell an 8800 GTS as a 8800 GTX. They use the same chip, and serve the same function, though one is slightly better, and has a significant price premium. The model name will change to reflect the hardware change, with that in mind, I seriously doubt the "M1210" will be sold with a DX10 class card.
