hello i'm from israel and i need help from you guys.

i need to buy a new laptop but i dont know what to choose.
i have two options and i'm having a rough time about what to choose.

my first option is the dell xps m1330-
    2.0GHZ
    2GB
    160 HD
    9 cell battery
    geforce 8400
    vista buisness
    3 years warrenty
    wled screen
and if im taking the red it's with cam and the black is without.
we don't have the white in israel and these are the only specifications i can take.
    it cost 2000$
what would be the weight of the dell with this specifications ??????

my other option is the white apple macbook 2.16GHZ and you know the rest.

i know that the dell is way better by is specifications but i dont know if i need a notebook that is that good.
im not doing games 'cause i have the nintendo wii and the xbox360.
but still i want a notebook who could last and be good enough to use for 2 3 more years.

i also wanted to try the osx 'cause it's something i always wanted to use.
these days i have the hp dv4000 and it sucks i mean really sucks.

    plz help me to choose.

    Shalom!

I can't honestly decide what would be the best situation for you. I am going with the m1330 cause it looks slick and should be enough for my wide-range of needs. I'm not sure about the warranty about the Mac's but if Apple provides with a similar deal (3 year war)... then you could go with either laptop... it's your preference (maybe in your case, you should base it on price).

    :)

ive had a macbook for the past year and a half, and a macbook pro since JAN.

aside from looks, i dont see whats so impressive about the 1330. id say the macbook not to mention its cheaper.

now what will u be doing with it? i do a little dvd encoding stuff, and the mac's just dont cut it in that category... on to a 1420 for me.

both are nice computers for sure, i just dont see the reason for the 1330.

i don't think Mac's are much cheaper, plus they don't have as many configurations. I just configured the cheapest macbook $1099 starting, end $1522.61 with upgrade to 120 HDD, 1GB memory and 3 year protection. I spent $1485 on m1330 with same specs as Macbook, plus accidental coverage and onsite repair(which Mac's only have on desktops), updated wireless N card, 9-cell battery, and LED screen. Now I'm not against Mac's in anyway, i'll probably buy one in the future. But I just think that you get more options and a better value with m1330 over the Macbook. The m1330 was probably made to rival the Macbook. Even though I do like the simple design and thinness of the Macbook, the m1330 weighs less, which was a big deciding factor in my choosing it over looking into the Macbook.

if you game get the m1330
if u don't get the macbook
    simple decision
for me i don't even consider the macbook even though i use OS X simply because the video card on the macbook is a joke

gma 950 is really not to bad for a 2+ year old solution. that said.

if you game, get the xps or a 1420. if you dont, get the macbook.

chikachic, im not sure what your pricing is coming from, but i can get a well equipped macbook for under 1300$ + ram on the egg. (thats with 160 5400 too)

both are real nice computers, i tend to switch back and forth from dell to apple.

i got the xps because 1) i need visual studio for programing on the .net platform and 2) i mess around with all types of applications, a lot of which isnt compatible with mac.

if you dont have something that you must use that only works for windows or run tons of apps, macbook is probably better considering its price..

if you just want to do internet browsing, multimedia, and word processing, office apps. I would go mac in that situation

remember too, if you wanna use xp or vista on a MB, they both work the same as on a PC now. Bootcamp is pretty solid now.

the main reason im going with a dell this time around is the fans on the MB/MBP are just so much louder at full bore. and the macs do run about 15-20c hotter. definently noticable

    not true....

If it uses the Intel core (which I think it does), then one could install Vista/XP onto it using bootcamp.

Of course, factor in the price of a copy of Windows to your MacBook purchase as well.

well bootcamp requires you to go purchase a second OS (windows).. also some niche programs will always not be available or be available later on MAC's.. Slingplayer, etc (I think there might be a MAc version now but there was a year lag before Mac users got it)... the user base isn't big enough for the small software guys to port there programs to Mac.

i think with intel's in the apples now we will see software start to get made more and more for macs.

otherwise, just run a copy of windows with the mac, its really a win win.

Considering how popular Macs seem to be getting I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing more and more applications/games being developed for macs in the near future.

would Civilization 4 and Command & Conquer: Generals work fine on it?

I think it all depends on what you will use it for most. I love the look of the 1330, but it is overpriced beyond compare. Now, if they offered coupons for these systems like they do with the Inspirons, that would be a different story. In comparison, I recently purchased a 1420 for my wife and compared it to a similarly configured 1330. After coupons, I got the 1420 for $1,093 + tax. The 1330 was $2,414. That is almost a $1,400 difference. I could have purchased two 1420's for that amount - no thanks.

If you aren't doing any gaming, then the Macbook is the easy choice. There are plenty of other options as well, which are all priced significantly lower than the 1330 as well if the portability factor is the most important aspect.

I agree that as you get more expensive, the Macs get worse and worse to being terrible deals, but at the beginning, I don't think they're that bad.

I can get $100 off a MacBook through my college, plus a free Nano I can get rid of for $125 at least on Ebay. That leaves me at $875 for a Core 2 Duo, 1GB DDR2-667, 80GB 5400RPM HDD, integrated wireless-g, and all I really need for basic word processing and web surfing, with some future protection.

Now, personally I can't stand the OSX GUI, and I'm not a fan of how monopolistic Apple can be at times, but I think that at the entry level the MacBook is a great deal for ultraportability.

It took me 3 ... THREE years to get used to OSX. Sometimes its so stupid that it frustrates me... (i.e. you need to drag the zip drive to the trashcan to eject the zip drive -- that took me 3 hours to figure out).

thank you guys for the help.
the prices are almost the same here in israel.
'cause apple stuff in israel are all expensiv.
i think i would go for the m1330 but i'm afraid it would be heavy with 9 cell battery. i really want a light notebook to carry around.

the apple warrenty is 1 year.

i wanted to try a new systen operation and it doesnt matter which one i would take cause the vista would be new to me and the osx too.

so it's the battery issue now.

If you're concerned about weight, go with the m1330. Even with 9 cell it's 4.7 lbs, while the Macbook is about 5.3 lbs with regular battery.

true the macbook is thinner, but even with the 9-cell battery, the m1330 weighs almost .5 lb less! So the question is: thinner or lighter?

Full review from whom? There are reviews by NBR and cNet and PCWorld... but no user reviews yet. The first shipments happened today (supposedly)... so the earliest people would get their laptops will be tomorrow. *prays*
