So as some of you know my laptop was exchanged bc the dell guy said he smelt burning on my xps m1330 when he tried to fire it up. My xps has had 2 motherboards exchanged nothing related to GPU failure. Ive had a new 9 cell battery exchanged, new plastics all around and chasis, a new touch control panel, new dvd drive all put in, and new a/c adapter. He exchanged the motherboard this 3rd time and then my computer would not even power on. My computer had problems booting up but atleast the laptop powered on before he came. Anyways he couldn't figure it out why it would not power up. He said maybe the processor was fried?or the heatsink was broken? or they sent me a bad motherboard. So they exchanged my laptop for a studio 1448. After i got my exchange i found out i didnt have to send in my xps because of saftey issues. So i took it apart completely / but prior i had wiped the hard drive so I reinstalled windows 7 on the harddrive with the studio 1448 and re applied thermal grease on the processor and the laptop fired up with a blank screen. However it would only stay on for about 30 seconds sometimes a minute the web cam light would come on for a second and it would beep twice and the laptop would shut off. So i figured ok processor might be fried maybe need a new heatsink I have no idea. Well when i plugged it into an external monitor everything worked like a charm! So i came to the conclusion it needs a new lcd screen, or so i thought. I was messing around with it jiggling it and the laptop shut off on me. So i took apart the screen and discovered a black burn hole in the flex cables behind the lcd screen. The hinges must have severed and exposed some wires which touched and shorted out the system also burning a hole in the wire casings. I removed the cable and the laptop works fine now on a external monitor. I ordered a new flex cable on ebay for $7 which should fix my xps. So basically i got my studio 1448 for the price of a 7 dollar cable. However the xps no longer has warranty but my warranty was to run out in 45 days anyways. :D
