Hey guys, i have one problem with my new m1330. I've been searching all day long for a solution but i didn't find one.

I've received my ubuntu preinstalled xps today and installed Vista 64. Everything works great except: the LED screen brightness.

When i try to adjust the brightness, quickset only knows 2 "steps": Display on (= maximum brightness) and display off. The even bigger problem: when i'm running the xps on battery mode and i try to reduce the brightness (= display turns off again) i only can turn it on again by connecting it to external power...

There still are no official x64 graphics drivers from dell for the built-in x3100/gm965 graphics chip so i tried the drivers from the intel website and from windows update - without success. Even tried to reinstall QuickSet.

    anyone knows a solution?

    thanks, michael

If you've already reinstalled Quickset, the last thing you can do is try reinstalling Windows.

Have you checked that your BIOS (for brightness control) and QuickSet drivers are up to date, as per the manufacturer's website?

I'm sorry that I can't help you more, but if they are up to date, then you should send the unit back to Dell.

    thanks for your help.
i also tried the BIOS-brightness settings and tons of different drivers from the dell website - no luck either.

today i've tried to install vista 32-bit. but the installer wont work (?!). i've changed the settings in the BIOS to ATA-Mode. The Windows XP installer ran without any problems (running XP SP3 now with working brightness controls (all other hardware is working without any problems, too...))

My Vista 32bit-Problem: The installer boots from the CD, loads up into the GUI where you can select your language - and that's it. No Keyboard and no Mouse/Touchpad working... When i insert a Vista 64bit or XP 32 boot-CD everything is working fine... anyone has an idea what could be wrong there?

i really think about sending the unit back to dell - or sell it on ebay and get a new one...

anyway thanks again for your help!

Sounds like a bad Vista disk or missing drivers. If anything, 64-bit vista has less drivers on it, not more, so it makes no sense that your touchpad works there but not in 32-bit. Unless, again, the DVD is bad.

nope the dvd works perfectly as i've also tried 3 different DVDs (original dell, ms partnerprogram and another retail i've bought). only x64 seems to work...

the m1330 was preinstalled with ubuntu linux - is there any difference in the BIOS/Hardware?
