Hi guys, so basically my acer is on its last legs so i need a new laptop for uni. It will mostly be used for work, internet, gaming (not really hardcore) and connecting to my hd tv.

I have been looking at the m1530 here, the second spec for £699

    http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/p...psnb_m1530?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&ref=lthp&s=dhs

Basically just wondering if there is anything else around that would do the job better for the same price or if this dell is worth getting, as it has been around for a while is it beginning to look outdated? Also i know there is a new range coming soon but im sure these would be out of my price range. £700 really is the highest I can push too.

Thanks in advance for any replys.

The problem with the new xps studio is that the cheapest version on the UK site is technically inferior to the £699 xps m1530 and costs just over £100 more. If you upgrade the parts to make it the same or a little more powerful, it will cost you over £1000. I personally don't think that an extra £300 - £400 for a system that is only slightly more technically impressive worth it. And that is my problem with the new studio xps.. it really hasn't pushed the boundaries at all.

If you don't have money to burn, I think the xps is still the best. I am also a bit worried about the fact early reviews are saying it runs very hot...

I was amazed that dell also chose such an average graphics card. All things considered, this just seems like a different looking xps with a bigger price tag. Looks nice tho

Considering the ati ~ 3670 in the new studio xps, I'd steer clear unless I was uterly desperate and wanted to give away money.

Best advice would be to post in the Faq forum, that lot would be better able to offer advise as regards alternatives.

700 pounds sterling for a well aged 1530, in my opinion would be a bad idea. Have you tried the uk outlet?
They usually have 1530's at better prices if you're strapped for cash -e.g They have a few there now for only 400 - 500 pounds.

"Dell Outlet is a division of Dell Products, selling refurbished computer equipment. This is product, which has been returned to Dell for a variety of reasons including cancellation and specification changes."

You get what you pay for from the Dell outlet. The M1530, whilst not brand new, still stacks up well against most other laptops on the market, especially in terms of price. Even if you go to other brands with a similar amount of money, you are pretty much going to get the same technology.
