Hi, new here to this forum and want to say thanks to everyone here for the great info.was going crazy trying to decide what to get.In the end i chose a m1530 cant wait!!Thanks again..
Would like to return the favor and hopefully help a few canadian buyers trying to get a deal.seeing that the discounts here in canada are not near what our u.s friends have available ,this is what i found. Costco.ca has a $200 price drop an m1530,called dell to order told him about costo and he was suprised but said since i have the proof he would match the price and let me customize a few things.Dell guy was great and if anyone is interested a can give his email or ext.# very easy to deal with!
    this is what i ordered.....
    t 7500 2.2
    2gb ram
    160gb @7200

    free shipping

    price $1609 plus tax
total price incl tax here in ontario $1834.26

not bad. about what i paid for mine after tax and you got a better HD, XPS,Proc. Good deal. Sucks, In The US that would be a rip-off cause they have uber-coupons. oh well. Still, you'll be happy with that machine.

Going to wait for the new Penryn before purchasing though.

Not bad, through Dell Canada EPP you can currently get (online):

Same system spec's as yours with a 3 year NBD warrenty.

    Sub-total $1,617.44 before tax.

I'm hoping we'll see better deals by the end of Jan....

buda :) enjoy your new system!!

Is that for the US or Canada? it seems lk a decent deal...Seems like you are talking about the US price, Dell Canada do not offer the 1680x1050 screen yet.

My dell guy told me difference in price is because u.s sells 100 to every 1 here in canada and there is shipping charges, customs charges, but still does not explain price difference on upgrades.person i spoke to said he gets questioned about this alot so be sure to bring this up.also i spoke with a sales manager which i would ask for.will give you his e mail or phone ext# if your interested.
    cheers

If you wait for the Penryn, that system will jump from 1700 to around 2300... Is it worth it??

No, the 100 to 1 ratio is the effect of the price difference, not the cause. If the Canadian prices were the same as the US prices, their Canadian sales would be 20 to 30 % of their US sales.

I don't believe that either. It's not like the laptops are made in the US, after all. The US and Canadian laptops are imported from the same place, Malaysia I believe.

The real answer is lack of competition. And that's not likely to change, since the government doesn't seem interested to find out how prices are really decided.
