Hi. It seems like my slot-loading dvd drive is having problems ejecting some discs properly. While some cds/dvds just work fine, there are others where my drive struggles to eject them.
Several minutes ago I pressed the eject button to eject a burnt dvd but instead of coming out properly the mechanism seemed to struggle/stop halfway through and then the dvd just popped out of the drive and flew against my stereo standing next to the laptop  I noticed similar behaviour right at the moment I got this laptop where certain discs would only eject halfway and I had to pull them a bit to get them out.
I can't imagine that there's a general problem with the mechanism as this only happens with the same discs (some burnt dvds and one original music cd) while others just work fine every time.

Has anyone experienced similar behaviour with his m1530/m1330 slot-loading drive or has someone an explanation for this? Thanks for any help...

I have a feeling it has to do with the actual disk size of the recordable cd's as they are pressed differently than commercial disks. Although I haven't heard of this problem, it doesn't surprise me that it is happening with the slot loader drive. I would test it out, but I am not home where all my CD-R's are.. I'm sure someone else can test it out to see if they experience the same problem. If not I would get a tech out to replace the drive.

You mean it flew off forcibly from the slot like a frisbee? Hmm that is strange. Never had a problem with mine. I use TDK and Memorex.

Yeah, you could describe it that way. It basically didn't come out properly and the mechanism seemed to struggle at one quarter of the cd sticking out of the slot, then I guess it built up some tension and then the dvd flew out like a frisbee. This was with a Verbatim dvd but it has only happened once this extreme.
All the other times the affected discs seem to get stuck with a quarter or let's say a half sticking out of the slot and the mechanism making whining noises. At this moment it is possible for me to carefully lift the disc that is sticking out and then it will just slide out normally.
It looks like the discs gets stuck not at the slot of the actual drive but at the slot of the chassis.
But it only happens to certain discs. I think it were 2-3 burnt dvds and one original music cd (Room for Squares by John Mayer ;) )
Really don't know what to think of this. In every other aspect the drive is just working fine and I really don't want to have another technician rip apart my new laptop.

They just swap the drive. Take out some screws voila. Might be a warning that the drive will soon die. If under warranty might as well have it fixed or if you can order the part replacement and change it yourself.

Thanks for the responses so far :) I called tech support today and I will get a complete new laptop
I bought the machine in january and since then I've gone through a display exchange and a motherboard swap and now the tech told me that the best solution for me (and perhaps also dell) would be to just send me a whole new laptop as I might have a lemon.
Right now I'm very happy with Dell's tech support. I didn't even have to ask for a replacement, they just offered it to me.
I'll take this opportunity to upgrade my original order with a penryn cpu, higher resolution display and an intel wireless n card. What would I want more? I'm getting an upgraded laptop that is brand new and hopefully without any flaws this time :D
