Hello ppl, My hard disk has started to fail already! (~11 months old) and Dell has happily agreed to replace it, the thing is they want to take away my failing hard disk once they replace it. Like everyone else i have personal information saved on it, so does anyone have any tips and recommendations on securely wiping my harddrive before Dell takes it away? Has anyone been through the same situation before? Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply! any ideas of how long dban takes? since my notebook is my primary computer I plan to wipe it just before the technician comes around.

I use dban all the time at work, we use the dod command which does a department of defense rated wipe. Most of the time it takes anywhere from 1 to 2 hours to complete all the passes.
