quick question to those with the xps m1530 - i'm trying to check whether my system is faulty, or whether all the 1530s are like this.

can you please do me a favour and:

    - go to control panel
    - go to sound
    - and in the playback devices, tell me whether you have 3 items (being speaker/headphone, hdmi and spdif) or just 2 (being speaker/headphone and hdmi)??

i only have 2 - and want to know whether the 1530 is capable of outputting audio using spdif...

    thanks!

thanks - not quite the answer i was after!

the dell person told me to reinstall the audio driver - which i'll do tonight - he seemed to think the m1530 was capable of digital audio output using the s-video plug.

BUT i noticed that the m1530 owners manual clearly states otherwise - which is strange since all the inspirons, and the xps1710, can all output digital audio using the s-video plug.

and so those 2 pages contradict each other.

PLUS they sell the adaptor for the m1530 which states spdif audio out (which i purchased hoping it would work...)

I think you guys missing somthing here.. here is what I think , correct me if I'm wrong the S-vedio will not support high Dif audio or vedio. but the HDMI™ connector on the left side of the laptop with the correct cables (not the usual s vedio cables) will support HD audio. does this make sense..

ordinarily with s-video, you're right - the 4-pin version only supports low-def video. BUT dell have 7-pins, which is meant to support component output (for video) and spdif (for digital audio). and they sell the adaptor to provide for that.

have read other threads/posts on various websites with people saying it works brilliantly with other dell models (eg inspirons, xps1710). except it doesn't seem to work with the m1530...
