I bought my xps 1530 back in feb 2008. I have the 3 year warranty that is going to expire at the end of Feb. I've had the motherboard, fan, and heat thing replaced 4 times now, the screen replaced 3 times, and they are sending a tech out tomorrow to repeat the process. They have also replaced the dvd drive, the webcam, the front casing around the screen, and the control panel.
Their replacements haven't fixed my problem yet. My screen, depending on what angle it is in, glitches out until I move it.

I guess my question is...should I request a warranty extension, since I know that what they are fixing to do isn't going to fix it (since it so far hasn't in the past), or try and press them for a better resolution NOW and hope that we can come to an understanding before Feb rolls around?
-
Well if the motherboard has been replaced 4 times... it should work by now. One question, if you plug it into an external monitor, do you still get it? MAYBE its driver problems, but pretty sure its not if it corrects when you move it.
-
Ask them for a system exchange. That many repairs for the same issue constitutes a need for an exchange.
-
The norm' has been 3 Service Calls for same problem = replacement.
I would contact Dell and tell them you have had enough. Ask, why replace parts (wasting their $$), with more when it is going to be a certain fail.
I had several new GPU replacements, finally got fed up and was able to convince them to issue a replacement.
There are other routes you can go if you can't get tech Support to help:

Before one of the mobo replacements, the monitor went out completely, and I was able to plug it into the tv and get the image. -
Thank you, I'll try your suggestions!

Yes I would contact Dell about a replacement laptop. The XPS M1530/M1330 are ticking time bombs with the defective Nvidia chips. I would ask for the new XPS 15, it looks much more promising. Make sure they don't try to push you on the Studio XPS 16, they are rubbish.
-
even with monitor and motherboard replacements. Must be giving you really bad parts. But, the 1530 is known for failing. Did they replace the GPU? I would have assumed it was included with the motherboard, but with dell you never know.
It would be funny then, if they gave you a replacement, since they arn't sold anymore. They would give you like a XPS 15 or something. Bet that would get them mad for a 3 year old laptop! -
^^I believe 4 Mobo's.
They should give him a replacement, and it would be absurd if they tried to replace with a 1530. If he did receive a replacement he should get new, not refurb..and comp. specs /= to or better of what he has. : ) -
The nearest computer would be dell's new XPS 15, like I said -
Well, after talking to tech support again, they've informed me that through all the replacements they've never replaced the cable that connects the screen to the computer. Which makes no sense to me, since I've told them the issue every time I've called in. But, they are going to replace that (along with the mobo/screen they had already sent out).
The tech made a note on the account that if that doesn't fix it (since I refused sending it out to the depot because I need it for school), the next step is replacement of the whole unit. -
Well, it is notated about a replacement. I hope you don't have any further issues.
Since your Warranty ends towards the end of Feb. & I know you were questioning purchasing the Warranty extension. You may want to wait til it nears that date, so that you can get the best pricing from a few reps.
If you work at it you may be able to get a better deal & sometimes they will throw in an extra (gift card, accessory) ~ to get you to purchase.

Though I never had a problem with my m1530 I wanted to extend the 3 year warranty also but the clincher was it would cost $280 which includes home service.
-
The tech couldn't fix the problem. They are sending me a XPS 15 replacement.
-
Are you a bit relieved now?
Now you just have to wait for the Specs, to see exactly what you are getting in your system.

The tech got most of them over the phone, and seemed pretty pleased with them. It sounded like it was the xps 15 performance build? -
You can also see if there is any movement via your Dell.com account.
Once there, you will want to go to: My Support > Service Call Status > Support & History Status > And check out both History Support Request & Service Call Status > Enter your Service Tag # > Click submit. It will pull your latest & greatest information. : )

-
Yay
TV Tuner is basically you can watch TV on your lappy.
I think your replacement will have a integrated tv tuner -
I received this list, and I have no idea what most of it means
Any chance I could get some help?

So, the laptop came in today (must give props on fast arrival). It's refurbished, but it looks brand new.
The only problem I with it thus far is the screen resolution? My 1530 was set at 1680/1050 all the time, and I love it. Everything is the perfect size on the screen. This one goes to 1366/768. Not a big deal, but sort of an annoyance when I've been with it the other way for nearly 3 years.
All and all tho, I'm happyAnd hopefully I wont have to hang out with my dell tech nearly as often (as pleasant as he was!).
-
After coming back on the xps 1530 to finish transferring files to the external, the difference in the screen is so noticeable! I'm definitely going to miss the resolution on this one
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Well see if you can contact Dell and get that resolved. I would be shooting flames getting a horrible 16:9 screen instead of getting something comparable to what you had.
