All slot load drives do make a noise upon booting the laptop unless you have a CD/DVD in the drive.

i can confirm the m1530 does, but it's no biggie. and i also think all slots loads make a noise- it not bothersome or anything..........

ok thanks,,because i was deciding between an xps m1530 and a macbook pro...i think the m1530 wins the race by far due to its competitive price...the macbook pro comes "nude" with no accessories and its expensive price even though i add the student discount..by the way, is the m1530 comparable to the macbook pro? i mean in terms of thiness, rapidity, durability, etc....coz i plan using this lappy for my whole Bsc, which im starting this august..is the m1530 as portable as the macbook pro? P.S +1 rep for both of you

yes, i think they are comparable and I must agree- the pricing, durabilty and current performance now favors the m1530 --IMO
