I just recently purchase an xps m170 and the cpu is a pentium m 760 and I have been searching the net for a while now and can't seem to find whether or not the mobo/chipset that comes with it (915pm) can support dual core cpu's. Does anyone know if I can upgrade my cpu to dual core later on?

no you cannot run a dual core cpu on that laptop. I had the same laptop (xps m170) with the 760 2.0ghz chip.

the M170 uses the Intel 915PM chipset which supports up to the 780 2.26ghz cpu.
I did read however you can pin mod a 1.6ghz ? cpu and get it running at 2.4ghz. (I think those were the numbers).

my M170 now sits here dead after killing 2 video cards. I refuse to put any more money into it. Its a shame too, it was such a nice laptop. :(
