I just picked up an m1710 on the cheap knowing it had a bad memory slot. Now I want to get it fixed or replace the mobo. I was looking on ebay and it seems there is an e1705 mobo on there.

I was wondering if anyone knows if I can use this mobo in my xps. I was looking at a review comparing the m1710 to the e1705 and it looked as though the only diff in the mobo would be a possibility of two chipsets for the e1705, a 64bit one and a non 64. Does that mean if I got it and it was a non 64bit, I wouldn't be able to use a core 2 duo on it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone knows how to repair/replace a memory slot or a good cheap place that can do it for me, I'd love to hear about it.
    Thanks!

Visually, the two boards look the same. Both support the same processers, but the ebay on may require a BIOS upgrade to support the newer Core 2 Duo. However, the link that you have provided, doesn't say if the chipset on it is a 945 one. If it isn't a 945, then it doesnj't support either Core Duo or Core 2 Duo, but rather a Pentium M processer.

Any way to tell visually what chipset the one on ebay is? Maybe if I can ask a specific question, I'd be able to find out. Thanks for the info though!

Yes, before you buy make sure that the chipset that is on the board is the 945, otherwise a Core Duo/Core 2 Duo processer won't work on it. Ask the seller that question, and just confirm it.
