ok here is my problem in an effort to make my xps 1710 as fast as it can be i have upgraded it from 2gb to 4gb but here is my problem when i boot with the 4gb it goes all the way to my desktop and it freezes after ~15sec the only thing i can do is hold the power button to stop the laptop.
i made sure to choose memory wich is supposed to work with my xps by going to the kinston website and ordered some KTD-INSP6000B/2G memory.

i have absolutly no problem with my default 2gb that came with the xps wich is samsung.

so i dont know what to do i did ran the dell diagnostic tool and all was reported as fine and my system runs a1 with 2gb so i dont see why it wont run... well freeze after booting xp

    system spec:
    xps1710
    intel C2D t7200
2gb ram (wish it was 4)
    win xp pro sp3

Well, even though kingston claims it can work, it could be an incompatibility nonetheless, or you could have just recieved a bad stick of RAM (known to happen on occasion).
If you haven't already, try upgrading to the latest BIOS version first, and I'd suggest also doing an RMA, and either getting a replacement or buying a different brand (my strongest recommendation).
    Good luck. :)

sometimes it happens that different manufactures or speeds dont work together. if possible try returning the new memory for a diffrent brand,,

problem solved i had memset that was booting from start and i forgot about it so it was trying to boot with the previous mem configuration wich is why it was booting and freezing, so i am now happily running 4gb..... hummm, hummm 3,25gb of ram, stupid intel chipset!!!
