(I have an 1080 eGpu in the post, so comment is just based on my research).

Running the benchmarks in 1920x1080 is the worst case scenario for any cpu + thunderbolt bottleneck (even with external monitor) - this is because the CPU has to create more frames per second and send those frames down the cable to be rendered by the card to get a high benchmark score.

Hence the eGPU "hit" is potentially at its worst.

If you change those tests to 4K resolution, the "expected" framerate drops significantly, which takes the pressure of the CPU and cable bandwidth and hence the scores should start to approach 85-95% of the desktop equivalent benchmarks.

Unfortunately i don't have a 2k or 4k display to test right now. In the process of sell house and buying new house. Depending on the space in new house i might just built a Desktop PC or just get a 4k monitor/tv. I know gtx1080ti is over kill for this setup. I just want to make sure everything is working ok and i want to see how it compares with my XPS 15. Do you have any benches with your setup so i can see. I won't have time to test with mine till maybe weekend.

Timespy result looks pretty good. My 1080ti graphics score is ~9600 if I recall correctly and my old 1080 was ~7500.

wow i'm number 1 with this cpu and 1080ti in Timespy :)

    https://www.3dmark.com/search#/?mod...Name=Intel Core i5-8250U Processor&gpuCount=0

no one else have benched with 1080ti but the interesting thing is my cpu score. Its almost double then most people. what could this mean? minimal thermal throttling? has dell done something right for once and there thermals are good on this laptop and we just giving them a hard time?

I have no clue why your cpu score is 2x the next two results. Have you done any logs to see what temps/speeds your cpu is hitting with timespy?

I had all programs closed to get best score. But i had HWiNFO open when i did my Heaven bench and Max was 80 then went down to 62 when fans kick in i believe but mind you this is with laptop cooling pad. I did a couple only cpu stress test and max was 90 but thats before the cpu fans start kicking in and then goes way down (also with cooling pad). I know my GPU temps never went past 62 on all test :)

This is very interesting. I hope some other people do some test soon. wish i had more time for test but not for another week :(
