Shot in the dark, but does anyone know if it is possible to unbrick a bios update gone wrong on an old Dell Inspiron 6000 (or similar) laptop?
I've heard about the usb flashdisk/floppy recovery mode for newer Minis, but can't find anything for older models.
TIA.

So,
It seems there is a way to unbrick most Dell laptops whose BIOSes have been corrupted.
The method has been found and verified on another site (google: D420???.hdr).
It seems to be mostly working for newer laptops, but the method seems to be present on older machines as well. It is visible in the extracted BIOS files, but I haven't had success on my machine so far.
Sad that Dell will not disclose any info concerning this recovery method. -
You could try posting here http://www.bios-mods.com/index.php

did you try from usb floppy to if I remember from other forum.
try to format to minidos or to fat16 and even make bootable
try with different version of bios.
rename or put files like
I6000A09.rom - I6000A09.bin or TOB0A09.bin or TOB00A09.bin
I6000A09.hdr - I6000A09.hdr or TOB0A09.hdr or TOB00A09.hdr
Attention at hdr and rom extension there are different,
-writehdrfile result hdr
-writeromfile result rom
if recovery procedure can identify file extensin then you must do same, will not work to flash hdr as bin or bin as hdr
Try with different usb floppy (mybe work with stick too,but unsure).
Try with all version of bios from support.
If still dont work try to find what bios chip is inside, and then external programmer will work.
