[The Netherlands]
Hi,
I am about to buy the Vostro 1500. Did some research already, but maybe some people have some last minute tips.
It's important I can game on it. It must be able to play Hellgate: London and Starcraft 2 (duh), and would be nice if Guild Wars 2 would play too.
Also it's important I can nicely use this notebook to play music with it on my 30 year old amplifier/speaker system . That's why I bought the remote for it. Is it a good one?
I will buy a express sound card with it (Echo Indigo DJ). Is this a handy notebook to use as musicplayer?
Also important is the buildquality and lasting power, but I believe Dell is quite a good brand. Should I pay hundreds of dollars for insurance and warranty? I am a student.
This are the Specs:
Intel® Core2 Duo T7300 Processor (2,0 GHz, 800 MHz, 4 MB L2-cache)
15.4" W Screen XGA TFT Display resolution: 1280x800
Jet Black with camera 2,0 megapixel
2.048 MB 667 MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2 x 1.024]
160 GB SATA hard disk (5.400 rpm)
256 MB nVidia GeForce 8600M GT
8x DVD+/-RW
9-cel lithium-ion (85 W/h)
Windows Vista Business
1.081,71
I will call them and ask for 7200 rpm 160 gb hard disk.
I also wonder about the CPU, won't it be better to ask for one with a 667 mhz FSB, because the memory and Santa Rosa work at that speed too. It could save some money I would say.
I will also ask them to install Home Premium, to save more money.
And ask for DDR3 on the 8600m gt
Any tips for me?
Good Choise?
Thx!

if you really are a student use your discount and get something more reliable and not built with cheap parts.

Dell seems pretty reliable to me. Always possible somethings happen. Did they fix it?
More comments would be nice.
Especially about the "I also wonder about the CPU, won't it be better to ask for one with a 667 mhz FSB, because the memory and Santa Rosa work at that speed too. It could save some money I would say" thing.
And whether it makes a good music player. I read the dell remote uses that express card slot, so that's not an option anymore. -
No they didn't fix my notebook they couldn't even figure out what the problem was till i made them look up this site and see the pictures posted. I gave them a fair chance to help me, but when they sent me to the nvidia website to update my drivers i new they had no idea what to do.
The techs recommended i send it back in and get a completely new notebook. I figured that would be fine till they told me it would be a month before i get a new one.......not sure how much your discount will help butI'm in California and I probably saved 400-500$ on the lenovo I bought.
Dell used to be reliable, but with massive lay offs and outsourcing their customer service has gone out the window. Its one thing to get computer with a problem its another to have to deal with some tech who just reads from a pamphlet and just keeps agreeing with everything you say.
