I see the Vostro 1500 has changed offer today and for the spec i require it works out about £90 cheaper!
I rang the sales rep i ordered off (30/07) and wished to cancel and reorder and he told me its £75 to cancel!
Yet the website says:
Consumers:
7.3 Consumers may cancel their Orders for any reason until, but no later than:
7.3.1 the end of the 7th "working day" (days other than weekend days & public holidays) after the day of receipt of the Product &/or of the Service Order Confirmation (as applicable);
Which is true?
-
This can't be true! You got the right to cancel your order within 7 days. For free.
-
I thought that was true, i think he was just trying to put me off reordering as i spent £840 on 30/07 and the same system now comes to £722! Free Delivery makes a £51 difference alone!
Conveniently the second i rang back it was his voicemail saying he'd gone home for the day.
I'll keep trying if not ill ask to speak to a supervisor as he obviously lied to me to retain the higher price! -
i thought it was free to cancel. is this just in europe??i cancelled mine after 2 weeks for no $$$
-
the website is always true, i suggest you ring them up again and demand they cancel the order without you paying anything and then shout at them for trying to con you into paying to cancel!
-
Just managed to get through to him and he "conveniently" remembered that i only ordered a few days ago and so he's going to check "something" and ring me back in 20 minutes.
I'm off to work in half an hour but i'll post here to let you know how i get on!
Cheers for the help -
ive been charged for laptop even though it was in pre production now im waiting for them to refund, so annoying. im in the uk btw
-
Im in the UK to.
You sure they haven't just put a hold on the funds? Most companies do that, I'd check with your bank?
My account shows all my money in it, but then under money available it's £800 less as they put a temporary hold on that amount to make sure you have enough to pay. -
I have cancelled orders before and was not charged -
Thats bull. You have either 7 days to cancel your order free of charge, or before the laptop ships. I'm not sure which.
I cancelled my order today (after 2 hours of going around in circles) and no one mentioned a charge for cancelling -
That's so ridiculous. My first laptop was handed to me by the delivery guy and I told him that I was going to refuse delivery. He took it back and Dell's giving me a full refund.
Although I am in Canada, that crazy place where all coloured lids are created equal... in price anyway. -
Ive canceled two orders so far and made a third, suppose it depends who you get. The person i spoke to on the phone was very friendly and helpful. Im pretty satisfied, anyways £75 to cancel an order is bs!
-
I've just noticed the spec I ordered has dropped in price!
Sent the sales person who dealt with me an email asking what can be done.
Think I'm going to phone up. -
After a lengthy discussion with a different sales rep, my original sales rep has apparently been in an accident, he has offered to change my processor...
from a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7100 Processor (1.8GHz,800MHz,2MB L2 cache)
to a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 Processor (2.0GHz,800MHz,4MB L2 cache)
I'm happy with that. But this now makes it my 3rd order. God knows what the estimated delivery date will be now! -
How much is that in total then?
-
Don't even bother talking to the sales rep.
Just go to dell chat and tell customer service you want to cancel your order. It takes less then 5 minutes.

Full spec is as above but I also have 3 Year Business Hardware Support - Next Business Day.
Total price is £815
Originally it was going to be £760. But that was for the 1.8GHz, no bluetooth, no hardware support and £60 for delivery!
So I phoned up to complain that £60 for delivery was a bit steep!
Ended up at £800 inc del and 3 yrs hardware support.
Phoned up a second time to add the internal bluetooth, that brought it to £815. -
do they charge you to a cancel an order after 7 days? I thought it was always free, no matter how many days later you do it
can anyone confirm if this is indeed true for US? -
Did they call you back? I have the same story, want to cancel my Vostro as it is £80 cheaper today. I spoke to some adviser and now waiting for answer. The T&C for business users are different than for home users so I will be not surprise if we cant cancel it at all.
-
Please don't throw around indignation if you're unfamiliar with the situation. In the U.K. you have a 7-day cancellation window in Home & Home Office only. In SB, you have to pay to cancel if they let you cancel at all. Vostro is an SB machine, isn't it?
-
He rang back about 5 minutes before i had to leave for work but seemed happy to cancel the order.
I'm still a consumer/home user, and not a business and so should be bound by those T&C's regardless of which laptop it is.
He said if i ring him back tommorow then we can sort it out then, as i had to leave for work literally as he rang so couldn't do it today. -
Did you check your order status? In my case it looks like this:
"We have located your Order but we cannot advise a status, please contact Dell Customer Service."
I do not have any official confirmation but it looks like canceled. -
cancellation fee (irrespective of when you do that) is specific to UK Dell, right?
-
Not if you bought it through the SB website. Vostro is not available on the Dell Home UK site that I saw. I'm glad it worked out for you, but it's something to keep in mind. If you order through SB UK website, you might have issues cancelling your order and the 7-day cancellation policy does not apply there. -
I did it over the phone and they put me through to the Home department and my Rep is a Home rather than business rep.
So i'd say i should be able to wangle out of it if they decided to stick to the T&C's as i am not a business or a business user.
Either way hopefully tommorow ill have the same laptop for cheaper!
2 weeks ago was free delivery, last week was 2gb from 1gb, this week both offers are on, plus a bit more money off! -
£75 to cancel order? True or a con?
