Keep in mind that with an SSD, SuperFetch should be disabled by default (theoretically decreasing the amount of RAM used by the OS after it has fully booted).

high-end Adamo laptop only 9.99 millimeters thick.
copy & paste from cnet, pix included!
i hope it doesnt come with intel atom chip and 3k price tag!?

Nice! Atom, I don't know, but don't expect to open this puppy up and find an i7 in there... These super-thin laptops are more fashion than function.

There is already some in depth discussion here

I'd also watch that 3k price tag lol
Considering the "regular" Adamo is in the 2k range >.>

Instead of refreshing the original Adamo with a better CPU, dedicated graphics, better battery life and Windows 7 they are bringing out an even thinner and even more useless one
Sometimes I really wonder who is in charge at Dell. It is as if they really try to fail on purpose. -
Laptops that are as slim as these won't have dedicated gpu's until the laws of thermals are overcome - ie you'll be waiting for a long time so get comfy
-
I'm about to pull the trigger on a Desire model with the 256GB ssd. I just wish I could somehow confirm which one it is. Any ideas?
-
Brand new, there is no doubt in my mind that it is the new PB22-JS3/PM800
-
I seriously hope that is the right answer. I just wish there was a way to somehow to see it.
-
If it isn't than just return it.
-
Sorry I didn't mean an actual graphics card I just meant a proper integrated graphics processor like the nVidia 9400M
Why not DDR3 RAM? Why not a 1,8 or 2 Ghz Porcessor? I just don't understand Dell. -
These ultra-slim systems aren't meant to be workhorses, just postable and capable of doing everyday type stuff.
Oh, and the Adamo uses DDR3. Faster procs require more than the 10W that the SU93/9400 does so battery life would take a big hit. -
I guess you're right. If the ssd isn't as fast as I want it I'll just return it. -
Why can Apple do it? The Air has 1066Mhz FSB, >2Ghz proc, a graphics chip and still beats the adamo in battery life
Hell would have to freeze over for me to buy Apple but one has to admit the adamo while a beauty is at least 2 generations behind -
Well, I have heard plenty of horror stories related to the MBA and heat issues.
IMO, Dell did the right thing with the Adamo - nice and cool running system here
-
The laptop (and Adamo series in general) isn't meant to be performance-geared. It is intended to be be stylish and provide a long battery life. For functionality with a small form factor I'd go with something like an Asus UL series or possibly an HP Envy. That said, how does making it thinner make it more useless? So long as they go with a (C)ULV Core 2 Duo then you won't be losing anything (aside from volume).
-
ok than give us an Adamo 14!
a bit bigger, a tad thicker, same build quality but powerfull enough to be useful -
Mine is powerful enough to be useful
-
Can I ask what your Windows index score is for your ssd?
-
Sleeyo Do you have an AW?
I'd need a picture to show the difference in size, 17 vs 14
Im deciding between M17 or Adamo
Same price different categories -
I hate to sound hostile, but...
... oh what the heck.
This is exactly the same as saying Do I choose a Baja Truck or a Convertible? If you have to ask for opinions on this it indicates you have no idea what to buy yet. And this is a bad state to be coming for specific product advice in.
One is an overweight-for-what-it-is yet still-all-day-portable ultraportable, the other is a boat anchor that will make you walk crabwise at a 45-degree lean if you're foolish enough to try carrying it in a shoulder bag. One is meant for lightweight Office tasks, the other is for heavy lifting. One is styled by a 30-year-old, the other is styled by a 12-year-old. You could not have a bigger gulf in... well, anything between the two.
Assess in more depth what *you* need in terms of how you will actually use it every day before asking questions like this. -
I like them both
1.I will be carrying it occasionally
2.They are bot suited for my tasks
3.Also both have Great Build Quality and Heat Management,
4.Both will cost me ~1100$
Im not really a small person so thats why im not sure about the adamo
But ifs normal in size , thats The one i prefer:
Aluminium,Skim Chassy and Easier to sell in case of Emergency
I know they are different But not completely Opposite,
What do you say about Asus VX5 andToughbook 30?
-
Check out the latest pics.
-
Those look fantastic. Where did you get them from? I would like to read the article, if any.
Thanks! -
-
I don't get how it stays without falling over.
?? -
True. Also, I guess you can't adjust the screen then to a different angle? I like it though. It would be the perfect companion to my M17x. My current 10" is a tad small. I want more screen space.
I hope it feels somewhat more sturdy than what it looks. -
NM - the picture is oriented wrong.
The thicker part is the base and the thin is the display
-
Actually, I think it's oriented correctly. If you take a look at some of the pics posted last week you can see the rubber feet which to me indicates the bottom. Those feet line up with the pic above. If that is the correct orientation that machine is going to be a pain in the butt to use. Here is the pic I'm talking about.
-
Take a look at the back feet. What are they doing there if the system stands up?
It doesn't make any sense to me the way the photo is oriented. -
I saw a pic somewhere that had a better angle of the rear of the machine. It appeared that the rear feet actually wrap around the case.
Found it...
-
What about the vents underneath the keyboard? Speakers?
I still don't see how the system is going to stay propped up the way it opens like that.
Guess I'll have to wait and see
-
Hmm. I was right after all. The slope of the keyboard does seem excessive, and would only seem to be reasonable if the screen is canted back quite a lot. Perhaps there's an eccentric hinge or something. An interesting approach to try in any case - I don't think it's been done before.
-
Called it!
-
The distribution of weight in the screen half is concentrated in the bottom, below and just above the hinge. This gives it a stable base.
-
It is less than 10mm so we shall see how stable the base will be.
Normally I'd agree with you but it just is way too slim to have it open like that, IMO.
Also, I use my Adamo on my lap way more than on a desk and it looks like the XPS would be uncomfortable. -
I want to know how abysmally slow it's going to be. It looks like the mobo is in the keyboard portion. Heat dissipation is going to be a top priority so the CPU is going to have to run cool. Hopefully, it isn't an Atom like Sony's X. Please let it be a CULV.
-
I have a feeling it will be an ION chipset w/ Atom
-
At least they'll be able to watch Hulu HD during the board meeting!
-
At that thinness, it certainly seems possible despite that would be rather bad (unless they price this laptop well under $1,000). On the upside, the design of the laptop when open seems to support heat dissipation quite a bit (reminds me somewhat of Asus's Fold/Unfold dynamic volume concept).
-
Thanks to the Dell Outlet 20% off coupons today, I picked up both a PEARL and an ONYX Admire version of the Adamo for $879 each. Will check them out and either keep or sell...
The new (upcoming) Adamo is just TOO thin for me. Like ultra-thin cell phones, they just don't have the battery power, or features of a more traditional, thicker version, and feel too fragile. -
How do we know it won't be the same performance as the Adamo's you just got (aside from the thinness)? I hope for my sake your assumptions are wrong as I want to pick one of these Adamo XPS's to replace my Eee PC
-
We don't, but I didn't mention performance being an issue of thinner electronics, just battery life and features...
-
I would imagine that Dell would update the hardware somehow.
I mean, the original Adamo is 9 months old now. -
wow, I didn't realize how old it was
-
Scratch that, it is about 8 months old.
-
Hello all...
I've been reading this forum for a while and am finally looking to purchase my adamo. I've been reading about this new hard drive coming the new adamos...i'm thinking about getting a refurbed instead of new. I don't care about the packaging and the 128gb hard drive is plenty for my use.
Am I right in assuming I will be getting an older hard drive that may not be as good? Does it really make that much of a difference? I am looking that I can save about 600-700 by going refurbished so I was wondering your thoughts on it...
Are there any other big drawbacks on going with the refurbed? I have purchased other refurbished laptops and have been happy...
Thank you in advance for your comments..
Cheers! -
The wait is over ... the new Adamo will be introducted on October 22nd...
