Yeah..things like that happen...it's human nature......hopefully the price points are pretty stable.

Don't know...we will have to wait and see.

I'm hoping there'll at least be an option for a regular old disk drive. The SSD would shoot up the price something fierce at a time when people aren't too keen on parting with big sums of cash.
-
Agreed...pretty much the reason I didn't buy the x301.
-
I just had an eyegasm. -
That price of $1,999 (base model?) will probably take it off the lists of some of the people here. However, if the specs & reviews look good, that's a price I'm willing to pay.
-
It better have better specs, $200 more than the Air for one extra USB port won't cut it....
Edit: ok esata and Ethernet too, but still... -
...And it's been for real confirmed. http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/03/16/it-begins-the-dell-adamo-spotted-at-sxsw/
-
If this has a 16:9 screen with that amount of vertical space available, I will be pissed.
Also, holy overpriced.
-
If this thing has some sweet specs I may have to pick it up. First Dell laptop I have seriously considered in a long time.
-
2 grand, no thanks!
-
Well looks like Dell let me down once again. Low voltage C2D with integrated graphics for two grand? No thanks, give me my Sony Z back please.
-
wow,wot a huge let down. the old intel intergrated card, not even the new 9400. and only a 1.2 core 2 duo. maybe this is only the lower end specs, but who knows. guess ur payn for the thiness and looks of it.
-
i agree.. $2000 , not 9400m, only slow ULV C2D, and no 1600x900 res display.
give me a sony Z or dell SXPS 13 ... the good looks of the adamo cant justify those specs (at least its got a wwan option, unlike the macbook air) -
Here is complied specs from what I've seen
$1,999 for base model
SU9300 1.2Ghz ULV
2GB DDR3
128GB Mobility SSD (MLC)
Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit)
13.4" LED 1366 x 768, Truelife, Glossy
Weight starting at 4lbs.
13.03W x 9.5D x 0.65H
6-Cell Non-removable battery
$2,699 option comes with following
SU9400 1.4Ghz ULV
4GB DDR3 (2X2GB)
$120 option adds
DVD+RW E-SATA, white or black depending on base
I will be keeping my Latitude E4200. Adamo seems exactly the same inside but much heavier laptop. -
dell is mega retarded with their pricing
-
Hmm...this is somewhat of a let-down
I guess dell things looks ARE everything...
I'm going to order my sxps 13 soon
-
The pricing OMG...omg...OMG...will have to check more once I get to work..carap..I'm already running late..bah.
Somewhat disappointed already.

Overpriced, Underpowered
Very disappointed -
$2K for one...and they can't even include a sleeve.....
LoL...
They need need to do a *reality check* very quickly in todays economy.

Yea, it reminds me of the horrible thoughts of the MacBook Air.
Well, you gotta admit you do pay for the design mainly, it's not aimed at the gamers market
.
Also, aluminium for the entire case can be quite expensive too. -
This is ridiculous: I happen to not mind paying a premium for an exceptional machine, but 2600 bucks for these anemic specs? Low resolution, no graphics, slow processor? They got to be kidding! Other than a pretty design this thing has absolutely nothing going for it. Even the year-old design of the Macbook Air can probably run circles around this laptop. Too bad, it would have been nice to see a competitor to Apple's product in this area, but this Adamo certainly is not it.
Forget it, I'm not interested. There's some designers at Dell they should consider firing... -
My sentiments exactly...what a disappointment...I think I'm gonna puke. -
Yeah....My tummy is aching just a tad right now...
McCin'
-
Nonsense; that case probably comes at about the same cost as their standard case, once you figure in the quicker assembly. At most, that case may add a 50 bucks premium over simpler designs.
Besides, when all is said and done, do I care about the technicalities of the case? I do care what it looks like, but other than that? -
what a god joke glad i picked up the sxps1340 and didnt wait around for this
-
Yep, the reception that the Adamo gets in this thread speaks volumes. Looks like this is going to be another huge success for Dell...
-
wow i am really glad i got the studio xps 13
this thing is a joke -
Just for kicks, I just compared Dell's Adamo to the Macbook Air, and it turns out the MBA costs less than the Adamo, but has better specs in every single category. That's just nuts. One really has to wonder who at Dell came up with the specs and pricing for the Adamo, and what they imagined their market might be. I really can't see any market for this device, other than perhaps the "computer as a fashion accessory crowd", but that's a really small market there, and one that Apple and Sony have just about cornered, too.
-
Yeah, I'm sort of baffled by what anyone would want with this thing, especially considering that Intel is claiming that very high performing Penryn chips and low-cost ULV chips will be out this year. I say wait until that happens and buy from a sensible vendor.
-
That's an excellent point. Might as well wait for Windows 7, too. Can you imagine running Vista on the Adamo? Windows 7 might do o.k. on it, but Vista would crawl.
-
A Dell Latitude E4300 with a similar configuration costs over 2200 USD. So it's not so expensive. The main problem for me is that it's too heavy. 1.8 kg for a super-slim, super-sexy 13" ultraportable? The E4300 is only 1.5 kg, and the Macbook Air is even lighter!
-
LMAO, I don't think Dell realizes that the economy is bad and people don't come to Dell for overpriced, shiny notebooks; that's Apple's job. Drop the price $500-800 then come talk Dell.
-
You got that right. Priced at $1200 maybe.
Will you buy me one then???
McCin'
-
Yeah, sure, as soon as it hits the Outlet for that price!
-
E4300 also comes with optical drive and Low Voltage processors. Real weight difference is even more considering those two.
Keep in mind those DDR3 RAMs for laptop and ULV processor aren't exactly cheap. It is not possible to say "it only comes with 1.4Ghz when I can get 2.4 Ghz for less money". This is how E4200 is configured as well.
But $2499 / $3399 Canadian and optical drive is extra $120? Wow. I wonder how long before I see anyone carrying one of these at school. -
I also concur that the price is not right. Their price does not reflect the current notebook market as Netbook and other cheap alternatives to expensive notebooks including Adamo are available in the market. I have been waiting to buy Adamo and it's hard to believe that price. It's a big disappointment!! Dell could have done better. In my humble opinion, Dell will be greatly challenged in this economic crisis to convince American consumers to buy it at $2k, which is way too expensive.
-
They should offer a SSD less option to bring down the entry price. Other than that...this was a huge disappointment.
-
$3400 for something specd less than the Macbook Air at $1999. Yes I am ignoring the diff b/w SSD and HDD cuz its all the same "storage" for me...the prices are CAD.
-
I don't think Dell expects to be especially competitive with the Adamo yet -- just sell some a huge profit margin and make the rest of their offerings look like a MUCH better value (because, well, they are).
Dell has a lot of competition on all sides with this thing at this point -- the MBA being the best direct competitor (and a cheaper alternative); the thicker, but lighter and much more powerful Vaio Z (note my bias as I just bought one of these); and a range of thin, ultraportable business notebooks like the Thinkpad X301.
Design is very important to me, so I'm only all too happy to see a new competitor enter the field and make Apple, Sony, Lenovo, Samsung, and others stay on top of their game. -
I too was shocked by the price as well as the specs. WTH is going on at Dell? No way would I pay that much for a laptop when I could buy a Precision M4400 maxed out for that price.
So much for the rumors that it was going to be priced less than the MBA.
-
It's too bad the rumors weren't true because it was thought the Adamo would start at $1500. So, instead of being a very special notebook it is a complete letdown.
-
This is the first model of the Adamo line; we know that smaller ones are on the way.
The 13 will probably the middle tier, by the time things are all done. -
I imagine all of them will end up in the outlet
-
is it just me or is the price really disappointing?
-
It's not just you
it's everyone
perhaps dell will lower the price later
-
O'I got yah quoted now!
And, you know it won't be long..at these current prices!
Oh snap!

SSD less version for 500 less would be awesome...
