    1080p B+RGLED Display Swap on Inspiron 15R 5520/N5110 or any other 15.6" laptop? (B156HW01 V.7 Screen)

I don't know if the B156HW01 V.7 would be compatible with the Inspiron 15R 5520 or N5110. Is the bezel the only problem? The frames holding the screen? Will using the same FHD ribbon cable from the XPS 15 L502X work on the Inspiron 15R's (since they are officially capable of supporting 1080p configurations as well)?

I have an unused B156HW01 V.7 from laptopscreen.com which was supposed to replace my screen on the L502X, but the original screen happened to be fine and the only issue was the ribbon cable. (And yes it is the exact 1080p B+RGLED screen on the XPS 15 L501X-L502X models and it is brighter than and as colorful as my IPS desktop monitor.)

I recently bought another L502X from the Dell Outlet with lower specs--i5, GT525M, 720p--for my dad so I could make use of the unused screen. But then I just noticed that Ivy Bridge configurations of Inspiron 15R 5520 were already available in the Outlet as well. For the same price that I paid I could get a 5520 with an Ivy Bridge i7 quad-core (the HD4000 seems to be comparable to a GT525M) or an N5110 with a Sandy Bridge i7 quad-core with a GT525M.

    i guess its problems there

i replaced many screens on laptops, (mostly DELLs)......and often you need to use same series (ex, inspiron 9400/9300, xps m1710,m170....) to get a proper fit on the screen..

(the problems is not often the bezel....its the wifi-antenna cables and screen-motherboard cables who goes different routes from model to model

.........sometimes also the frame screws is on different places.

you found out very quick if it fits or not.

i even did a photo guide many years ago, about replacing DELL screen here on NBR :), feels like ages ago........................link:

i must just show you guys a photo i took today...think its nice :)

    Hi,

Please let us know the Dell Support region/country from which you are ordering the system, so that I can check if 15R- 5520 is available with 1080P screen.

    Thanks and Regards,

The laptop has a big screen case, so I am sure the 1080 P screen cables could be routed through no problem, but my mobo on this 5520 is messing up, Dell is replacing it.

    Hey Guys
I tried to fit a 7520 fullhd screen in the n5110 and want to show you my accomplishments and problems so far.

The Display itself matches 100%, only like PocketSmiley said before, the cable is the problem.
The Resolution is 1080p but colors are washed out and long on green though.

From http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19503264.aspx i figured out i have to change the cable, bought the R4WW7 for the 7520, but it doesn't match to the mainboard.

Does anybody have an idea which cable could fit?

Hmm.. maybe I missed it somewhere in the posts but did you try the LVDS cable of the 7110?. I know my 1564 (only made in craptastic 1366x768 resolution) which is a generation older manages to run a 1080p screen on any motherboard with that 1764's cable (see sig for more information, the Intel HD version manages 1080p too). The 1564's cable was indeed missing the second LVDS channel needed to drive the display properly. I'm almost positive the 5110 board has the needed traces. The cable shouldn't be too expensive (mine was $4 :D) to test it out. It will be a little longer than the 5110's if the same at all. I'm too lazy to pull up pictures of the 5110 and 7110 LVDS cables and motherboards but assuming they're build the same fashion as the 1x64's.. anyways, look them up first and good luck!

On another slightly offtopic note: I'm now trying to get a 5110's keyboard in the my 1564

Please keep the thread updated, I'm also looking for a replacement for the crappy N5110 screen. There must be some higher quality matte panels that provide better contrast ratio and better colours, however the 1366x768 resolution is the limiting factor here.
AFAIK, there are no IPS panels for this resolution, so we are stuck with TN... At least get the best of it.

To my understanding we need the N7110 LVDS cable with the part number VPMW8.

Here is my post on another forum asking about it.

Would it be possible for you to try that cable and report back since you already have the 1080p screen?
