    Hello..
just wondering those with 1420s... how long do your 6 cell or 9 cell batteries last? (on average... since we all run different applications with our notebooks). bye!!

    Vostro 1400 + 6 cell (same thing as 1420):

The "Time Remaining" starts at 3½ hours when I'm doing light browsing with full LCD backlight (5 hours on lowest brightness). If I start off with heavy number-crunching tasks, it quickly drops from 3½ to 2½ hours and stabilises.

Just an estimate, as I've never had the laptop running on battery long enough in one session to be able to time it.

I can use my 1420 with a 9-cell full-tilt (games, full brightness, iTunes, constant wi-fi) for about 3.5 hours. When I turn off the wi-fi, stop playing games and lower the brightness two steps, I can get 5 easily. I've never gone into power-saver mode (the pre-loaded, or my own variant) to see how much I could get out of a full-charge.

using my 9 cell and switching to power saver mode in which all i am doing is internet browsing and using instant messaging i get between 5-5.5 hours. i tweaked my power saver mode a bit for my personal preferences as well including adjusting the brightness some and also using i8kfangui adjusting frequency of fan usage.

9 cell I would say 6hrs max (no wifi, battery saving mode, low screen brightness etc.) But typical battery life is about 4-5hrs with the 9 cell. I usually leave mine on full brightness and wi-fi on when I'm around home. I usually get about 4hrs.

My 1420 with 6 cell says I have roughly 3 hours. Browsing the web and such. That's with the backlight on max, High Performance mode, and Wi-Fi on. (Set to medium power saver mode in the power settings for battery mode.)

    I think I'll get a 9 cell sometime soon...

4 hours on a 6 cell at Max brightness?? that's really good...! is it consistent though? does the 4 hours remain 4 hours when you start using applications?

Er, whoops. That should have been a 3. Even with my (Zalman) cooler on high I have 2:50 estimated.
