I dont even want to hear what amazing things they say about them on QVC... those guys hype everything to such a ridiculous degree.
I can just imaging them turning the laptop back and forth to show the reflection from the screen, and saying "Look at that shine! Look at that Bling!" -
All bottom Specs, but close to 5000 sold, thats a lot of parts...
-
The screens on the laptops look really dark compared to that desktop.
I hope they just have the brightness turned down -
Yes, almost looks like low power mode.
-
Those QVC people will say anything for a sale. LOL
This lady called to ask the difference between AMD and Intel, and the QVC person said that AMD focuses on making 64-bit processors. What a BS answer. She should have said Intel makes faster processors.
The Intels are 64-bit too.
-
lol they are trying to clear out the AMD inspirons

that is really a good way to do it from Dell's perspective. the type of people that do QVC shopping will not know the differences between an AMD and Intel and will not matter what kind of hard drive they have or how much RAM they have, etc. they are just looking for a good deal on a decent built and priced laptop.
-
Yep these are the bottom line ones. Another girl asked if they had an internal mic.. she responded.. oh yeah here is the place where you can plug in a microphone. Thats hardly what I would call a internal mic. These machines seemed pretty expensive not have the santa rosa.. no camera etc..
The funny thing is I don't think you can order the inspirons with the AMD options directly from dell. These are special models for QVC. And with AMD what is the GPU option? I heard them say they come with vista basic.. which probably means the integrated/GPU on these notebooks can't deal with Aero. I think these people who think they are getting a good deal are getting screwed.
Edit.. Oh i see now, ATI Radeon Xpress 1270. I think the intel X3100 would be much better integrated option. I don't like ATI. For discreet the Nvidia is a better option. So Dwolfe77, you heard them say vista premium? I heard them say basic.. But now I remember they were doing some of the 3D vista stuff so maybe it was premium.
These things look like Vostro specs big time. Eg: 15.4" diagonal widescreen XGA TFT display with TrueLife
Thats Vostro is it not? They are taking Vostros and giving them the color lids.. thats all this is LOL -
Yeah, they did say they come with vista home premium, but you can't use aero if you don't have a dedicated video card. They can still use the media center stuff though.
-
The intel integrated X3100 will do Aero. But the ATI integrated probably not.
I would stay clear of this QVC dells solely for ATI integrated graphics. -
Definately, only good to see the colors while i am in the eternal Build Stage.
-
You should probably learn your stuff before spouting it off.
I didn't think I'd see the day someone would recommend Intel intergrated video over ATI. -
What does QVC stand for?
-
QVC stands for quality, value and convenience
-
LOL, with the Dells they were selling, it should just be "C."
-
lol ^ that's true.
-
Yeah.. that worries me too. Those displays looked like crap on my Sharp Aquos TV. The desktop really looked much brighter. With that and all the grainy display problems being reported I am more then a little worried about the 1420 I ordered.
-
The very last views of the laptops were far brighter, looked equal to the desktops, made me think she discovered the problem when she was doing her little photo demo, that no one could see, then they went to desktops and at the end the laptop looked great.
-
I was just going to start a thread about this. I was flipping through the channels and I saw a black 1520 on qvc.
www.qvc.com
I guess this is why it's taking so long for mine to come in... -
I'm sorry ... what is QVC?
nevermind
-
One of the girls was showing off the brown 15.4 model- opening and closing the display. You could see the crappy glossy coating that people have been complaining about. It looked very "rippled" like someone smeared vaseline over the screen.. and very noticeable. I'm starting to feel much better about getting the baseline matte screen... can't wait to it see for myself.
-
I've got a glossy WSXGA 1520 on the way tomorrow. Based on what people have been saying about the problems with this laptop, it will probably be going back. If this turns out bad for me, I will probably not buy from Dell again.
-
The whole situation is disappointing. I would have opted for a higher res screen but decided against it after reading various reviews of the truelife/glossy screens complaining about their reflectiveness. Now with the graininess and rippled appearance issues with truelife I'm extra glad I didn't. If Dell offered the 1440x900 without truelife I would have snapped it up in a minute.
-
What? google.com. Thanks.
-
whenever i see a dell on QVC i just want to call up and say "stop ripping off the naive people of america" because that's really what they're doing.
-
What? dont-be-an-ahole.com. Thanks.
1520 and 1720 on QVC now!! Is that where our laptops went???
