i know this is probably a very biased place to ask this question, but i was wondering if anyone knew how the 1520's webcam stacks up against hp's dv6500t's webcam..... i have a 6500 right now, and am not that happy with it, although i do like the quickplay, does dell have any similar features to the hp's quickplay?... i'm seriously debating returning this to get the 1520.. so i just needed a little bit more information... is there significant differences in video conferencing or picture quality?
thanks in advance...

The integrated webcam, although not listed on the specification page of the Inspiron 1520, is listed on the Vostro 1500, a similar model. The model on the Vostro is a 2.0 MP camera, and a VGA video camera (640x480@30fps).

I have the 1520 with the webcam, and I think its great!

does it work with aim?.... also...how well do the speakers pick up sound?
-
I haven't tried it with AIM, and by speakers do you mean microphone? If so, they pick up sound pretty well.

oops... yeah... mental mistake...... but thats good to hear

Generally integrated cameras are not that good, especially under low light conditions. But usually, adequate for video chatting. I have heard some positive comments about the 1520 camera, therefore it might give you slightly better results, but don’t expect it to have the video quality of an expensive standalone webcam or a camcorder.
It will work with any application (IM or otherwise) as long as they support video capture devices (i.e. webcams). So you don’t have to worry about individual applications.
DELL MediaDirect is similar to HP QuickPlay (but better I think). It doesn’t boot the main OS, instead there is a special OS for MediaDirect, which boots up in less than 10 seconds. It can play Videos, music, photos and even MS powerpoint presentations.
I heard that dedicated (linux based) version of QuickPlay doesn’t support Vista at the moment, therefore QuickPlay is just a Windows application in current Vista Preinstalled notebooks. Boots up the whole OS and launches QuickPlay inside Windows when you press those special Media keys. If that is the case, then MediaDirect is better (because it boots up and shuts down much faster) -
thanks a lot... that really helped!... i'm definitely switching over to the dell

Hey before you switch gbear, dell 1520 does not have an HDMI port and also it is more thick than HP, which makes it weight more. Just my 2 cents
