How did the people who reviewed the m1530 get such high 3DMark06 scores?
I know there have already been threads about this, but still have been unable to find an explanation for this. Reviews have gotten around 4400. I max out at 4095. I have tried tons of different drivers. I have it plugged into the AC Adapter. Vista is set on high performance. And I even did a reinstall of the entire OS.
-
I achieved 5115 OC'd. Try that...
-
I would prefer not to over clock a notebook. It's too risky. You're shortening the notebooks life and you could damage internal components.
-
Mine is 4288 with factory default driver...that was ummm 156.55 i believe...
If you want better performance update the driver! -
Also...you could dedicate part of your ram specifically for the graphics card. Also optimize it in the control panel to 3Dmark06 for best performance with 3Dmark06.
-
I already updated the driver and tried all sorts of different things. I have the latest beta drivers from laptopvideo2go and I even got the certified drivers from Dell and it's still low.
I also have a 2.4 Duo and on the review m1530, there was a 2.2 Duo. I don't get it. -
Read my other comment.

Ok thanks. How do I specify RAM for the graphics card. Since I have an extra half of gig of ram that will probably never be used. And sorry, but how exactly do I optimize it in the control panel for 3Dmark06. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
-
3Dmark06 does not solely depend on your cpu...mostly its just the graphics card.
-
hmm you have the nvidia software downloaded and installed right? Thats where you can adjust these settings. Overclocking, optimization, and etc.
-
I'm the same as you, mine is maxed out at 3950 and tried 3 different drivers. I thought increased shared memory for the graphic card happened automatically.
-
Reinstall vista again. I got about 4100 out of the box and after i restalled vista and updated the video driver from dell, it went up to 4321
-
Thats mine with 174.16 L2go Driver and No Oc'
Edit : Updated Results with 174.31 WHQL driver from L2go.com

running 3dmark on different resolutions wil give you higher/lower scores also.
Maybe you want to check that also. -
I checked that. It always runs the tests at 1280 x 1024. I have a 1680 x 1050 screen. So it automatically changes the resolution to 1280 x 1024. I don't think it makes a difference because I ran the test twice and the scores were roughly the same at the two different resolutions.
I'll try em again tho, since I recently reinstalled Vista. -
I guess there is nothing wrong with the scores you are getting.
Here are mine scores .
1280x1024 4039
1024x768 5045
1280x800 4523
1440x900 4061

The free version doesnt give you an option to change resolution. It automatically picks one based on your screen's native res.
That's the likely cause, the original M1530s shipped with 1280x800, so most early reviews were conducted with that. I have the 1440x900 screen and 3Dmark06 defaults to 1280x854 -
Yeh I didnt realise it defaulted until a while later also.
My score is a lot higher, but obviously I have a different laptop.....
Just because Im showing off....
(stock config/drivers - no overclocking)
When I overclock my CPU to 3.4GHz via the BIOs, I get a score of just over 14,300. -
Ahhh.. Ok thanks, for a second there I thought there was something wrong with my computer.
-
Um... No one cares.
-
I do
Jealousy is a sin
lol
Im jus messin, sorry to have messed up the thread. -
Now go and post your results in another thread.

I guess mine is alright with just 2GB RAM and 2.0GB Processor:

Thats pretty good. Its not me but a dude from a swedish forum just thought that the results were great. -
GFresh404, I have about the same setup as you.
I posted some 3dmark06 scores below.
The first one is after a clean install.
The second is after a clean install with laptop2go drivers installed.
The third is overclocked at 710/840.
Even with the overclock she never even reached 70c. -
I'm guessing you have the 1280 x 800 resolution then? Otherwise that's really good.
-
Hey you cheated! Jk, but yeah I have heard you can get well above 5000 if you over clock.
haha I'm surprised that guys computer hasn't exploded yet... or melted. I dunno why you would ever push your computer that hard. I think that's dangerous, it's clearly not meant to be that high. I'd like to see how long his computer lasts. -
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback.
Ok mine is definitely normal then. Your's should be higher than mine because of the screen resolution. -
I just have the free edition of 3dmark06 though so it's whatever the default resolution of that is.
-
Mine runs it at 1280 x 1024. Your's is slightly lower at 1280 x somewhere around 850. Since your's can only go up to 900. That's why your scores are higher.
-
Correct. Stock is 475/700... There's no way that pushing an 8600M to 700/1000 is a stable o/c. 1000Mhz on the memory!!
Anyway, aside from temperature issues, that's got to be glitching all over the place, so there is no way that's a useable overclock.
I would hate to think there is anyone sitting there who is new to o/c'ing and thinks they might try that on the M1530. Those clock speeds are WAY high, much higher than advisable.
