Well, I've been doing some reading on this blasted new Pentium 4 Prescott processor, and how it generates much more heat, along with very little, if any, gain in performance. My question to you guys is, do any of you have the new processor (honestly, I'm not sure how to tell;, I'd imagine SiSoft Sandra will tell you), and how is the heat?

Also, how's the battery life with the 9100s?

my Prescott 9100 idles at 53 with the fan on low... which is pretty high , i think. U can get IK8FanGui to tell the temp.

I wasnt aware that all the 9100s didnt come with prescott... how hot are your northwood 9100s/???

I was told by Dell that none of the 9100s shipped yet were prescotts.
How can you tell it is??

Well, just got mine today; it's a Northwood. :) It's still pretty warm underneath, but totally bearable. More info to come later.

Download SiSoft Sandra, from download.com (a diagnostic tool), and run the cpu check. And for temp, download IK8FanGUI.

I bought the lowest processor i could for my 9100.. so the 2.8. I thought I had a northwood.. but.. according to sisoft, i hvae a prescot.

i gota say.. it doesnt feel that hot.. my ibm r31 with a celeron was alot hotter.. 1.13 ghz.. but yeah.. this seems ok

one fan is alays on.. but i think thats normal. the toher fans only go on when im doing harddrive instence stuff.. like games or database work.. and then all three go on.. but not that loud. (to me atleast)

i hope nothing is wrong with these prescot processors lol.. now im scared

I guess its just wahtever is on the manufacturing line. which is actualy not good business practice if you ask me.. should be telling you exactly waht you are getting.. but since they dont specificaly say what kind of procssor it is.. then i guess you cant really do anythign about it.. same thing with the screen situation

I have my 9100 on order. From the invoice it is a prescott. I'm wondering if it would be possible to remove the 2.8ghz prescott from the notebook and put in a 2.4ghz northwood?
Reason being is the prescott is better for overclocking and my desktop system is watercooled so the prescott would be much happier there.
