Well guys, I finally went through with it and ordered an M1210
nothing really fancy on it, i got a core duo 2 ghz, 2 gigs memory, the geforce 256, an 80gb at 5400 and the audigy HD sound card
so, questions!
What graphics settings will it handle with CSS? BF2?
Will I be able to record decent quality live music with that Audigy card?
edit: and what process should i do as soon as i get it...reformat to get rid of the pointless s***?

The Audigy is not a card, go cancel your order and don't add that Audigy crap. It's a software that some people claim makes ur sound better. Nothing fancy and not worth the $30 or whatever. Go save yourself some money, and to let you know the software itself is available on Dells site for download FREE.
I hope you ordered the XP Reinstall CD btw, you're gonna like your machine

CSS it should play w/o a problem. I have BF2, but I've yet to try it.
It's up to you if you want to pay for the audio software. Mine came with it and i really haven't used it to the max. -
lol, i dont think anybody ordered a reinstall cd cause everyone is asking how to get one and if they should and what to do about it and stuff lol, including me
-
Sweet, I'm Canadian too.
And I'm also going to order the XPS M1210 soon. -
CSS will run at top settings, and I run BF2 @ 1280x800, everything high, full view distance, full dynamic light, but no dynamic shadows, those slow it down a tad.
To Griffin: I say the $25 audigy software upgrade is worth it. It does make a difference in sound quality, and its definitly worth $25 to me. Besides do you have an M1210? Do you have the upgrade? No, but I do, and Ive tested it and listened to many songs with it on and off, and believe me there is a difference. -
You do realise our systems are no different in chipset designs right? Actually our systems are the same except yours is designed to be smaller, nothing different. What I mean is that our sound chipsets are no different and I could install the Audigy component if I like, but I did from Dell's site and it doesn't make a difference. Unless I installed it wrong, if so I will PM you and you can tell me how to do it.
Performance wise, actually my notebook will win in any 3D benchmark against the OP's M1210 since he has a Geforce 7400 and I have an ATi X1400. Obviously yours has 667Mhz 2GB ram, 7200RPM HD, and a 2.16gz CPU.
EDIT: About performance, I don't know about the 7400 but I can run BF2 on High with the same settings as sheff said and CSS on High with 2x AA @ 1280*800 -
Just installing the Audigy Driver from dell's website makes no difference in sound.
I guess if you did pay for it there would be one. -
The x1400 may be slightly faster than the 7400, but the difference will be pretty neglible and come down to a 5fps difference in most cases. However, his 2 gigs of RAM will mean he'll take you to the cleaners for in game performance on most games like BF2 and F.E.A.R. which eat up as much RAM as they can take. And 3Dmark05 doesn't mean anything if you don't have the gameplay performance.
An excited canadian
