Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I bought an XPS 1530 from the Dell Business site last night as I got a really good deal on the spec I was looking for.

Today I am wondering if I missed something like extra charges for buying through the business section?

Anyone got any experience of this, your comments would be appreciated?

    Again sorry for my naivety!

I just ordered from the Business section last night too... I put 'n/a' in the company name prompt.

I then worried about it and asked the person who'd sent me to that section if it was ok, and he re-assured me it was.

Dell took money off me this morning, so it looks like it's progressing ok :)

I guess the only real difference is the option to pay ex-VAT...?

Yes I suppose so that kind of makes sence.

Although I don't really understand how I seemed to be able to configure a better deal through the business section than the home section, oh well i'm not complaining as long as I get what I requested.

Just out of interest what spec did you go for?

Vostro 1500, 1.4 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2gb ram (1gb free upgrade), 8600GT (£40 upgrade from free 8400GS), WinXP Home, matte screen

I got that for £386 inc vat, free delivery, cos I caught the last day of 3 special offers (the ram, the gfx, and a discount). That blows away any of the other system I looked at for £400, so I'm well chuffed :)

It does seem very strange to do a special offer of a free (and quite decent) 3D gfx card on a business laptop. Until one of the guys pointed out the Vostro range to me, it'd never have occurred to me to look there. As you say... no complaints, just odd they're limiting their potential sales!

There is no difference but the business site doesn't accept the DPA. Not that most people care.

This is the deal I went for got it all for £829. Is that a good price for what I have got?

The only thing I was'nt sure about was whether to go with the 250GB(5400rpm) hard drive or the 200GB (7200rpm) one? Any comments appreciated.

There are differences between the Small & Medium Business and the Home & Home Office sites, and they apparently differ from country to country.

Most laptops are available only on one site, not both. However, the Vostro models are just black Inspirons, or previous model Inspirons. Some XPS models are available on both sites, but the available configurations and the prices differ.

The other differences are the applicable policies. The return policies and the warranty options differ. For most laptops in the USA (not the Vostro), tech support is better when you buy from the business side, You can only get Gold support from the business site. The Business side also has different financial arrangements.

There isn't an option to pay ex-VAT, the prices are simply initially quoted excluding it as most businesses will be claiming it back and thus the ex-VAT price is the 'actual' cost to them in the grand scheme of things.

I believe there is a difference in terms of the rights you get buying from the Business site, you don't get the "7 days to change your mind and return" from the Distance Selling Regs as you would from the consumer side, but I think Dell's return policy is fairly good anyway.

After looking through the Dell NZ website, I found that small business has more "high-end" selections than in home. For example, In the home section, there is a starting selection for $1,899NZD, with a highest selection of $2,099. In small business, the 1,899 selection was gone, and the highest selection was a 2,299 one. Obviously for this, you couldn't get the same price if you were to make it in the home section (or the small business in that matter).
