My Midnight Blue 1420 shipped today. Ordered on the 8th of August and should be receiving it on Monday. I hoping DHL will let me pick it up on Saturday, but I'm not counting on it. My ESD was the 27th, so it was just a few days earlier than promised.
-
so I sent him an e-mail back asking if all the parts are in and which build stage am I in?!! he answere by saying I'm still in line and all the "backordered" parts are being gathered so my system can start production. I guess they still have 2 weeks.. still promising news I think.
did you recieve a similar e-mail?? -
I just called Dell (my first time) and was told the processor (Intel Core 2 Duo T7100, 1.8GHz, 800Mhz, 2M L2 Cache) and pink colored lid were the reasons for the long wait. No mention of my 1440x900 display.
As for the mouse with the ETD of 9/5, he assured me I should certainly be receiving that before then.
And he said that he sent an email somewhere in cyberspace asking someone to expedite my order. I'm sure that does nothing, but at least he was nice and made me feel better. -
Thanks for the heads up! I didn't receive any e-mail like that, but once I read your post 5 minutes ago, I immediately went to Dell CS online chat to find out the scoop.
I was lucky enough to get the same rep I had before - she was extremely helpful and seemed to be in the know with DOMS - and I was informed that my ESD "had not changed from Aug 30-Sep 1".
"Had not changed"?? I reminded her that my original ESD was Sep 7 and that she herself had told me last week that it was going to be more like Sep 17-19. This time, she seemed pretty confident that it would ship within the next two weeks, as you said.
Two things that correlate....I have heard mentioned that Dell HQ sent out a serious mandate to try to clear as much of the backlog before Labour Day. And I also heard that a large shipment of much-needed parts (primarily, LED LCDs) was scheduled to arrive at the manufacturing center Aug 24, which would have been earlier today in Malaysia.
Whatever it is, it is looking more promising right now. Keep thinking positive!! -
My white 1420 just shipped the 22nd, ordered on the 8th on dell.CA and had an EDD of Sept 7th. Gives you guys some hope!
-
sweettt, i'll be waiting for my white 1420 too! ESD Sept 6

hello everyone, I had a scare-episode today. I checked my order status at Dell.ca like usual.. and the order has disappeared from the main "My Account" window. I could still reach it through other links and through the confirmation e-mail i received from dell. so I tried calling CS to inquire about the mystery of the disappearing order..
the CSR confirmed to me that there was nothing wrong with my order it is still scheduled to be shipped by the (updated) date of Sep. 6th. she also mentioned that the reason was a lead-time of 15 days from the day it entered production. Aug 14th ..... so lets see 14 + 15 = 29 !!!..which means that if the lead-time theory is true, it should start going through the kitting-build-blah blah stages on the 29th..and maybe just maybe gets shipped during next week ahead of the deadline.. I still believe -
days ago over the weekend, I looked up my order on the web. Said order did not exist. So I called up the phone order status and the robot lady said there was no record for this order. At this point I thought I was canceled. Just waited another 20min any my order appeared back on the website. This was just before the Phone order status went down.
-
To clear up a few 'guesses' here, I thought I would jump in.
All systems for Canada are built in Malaysia. It takes one day for them to get from there to Texas. I will show my process for the 3 systems I received to show how the system can work.
Pls remember they were all given priority and noone has come close to getting them this fast
Aug 8 - Systems reordered
Aug 9 - Systems built in Malaysia
Aug 10 - Enroute and arrive in Texas
Aug 11 - OS imaging and software
Aug 12 - final inspection/box and shipped
Aug 15 - arrive at my door in Niagara Falls.
These were all m1330s and yes they were on an Exec Expedited shipment. This only shows that there is no wait time from Mlaysia to the US.
The backup is their being built in Malaysia as the parts arrive daily and there is no 'stock' kept on hand with Dell.
Next... its DOMS and not DOBS. It stands for Dell Order Management System. If you want accurate info you need to get a CSR that knows how to use it; it seems that not all do. It tells you the following:
1. build status;
2. where it is exactly;
3. what its priority is;
4. if there are lead times, exactly what parts are delaying it;
5. length of time for the part wait;
6. after a certain date your service tag number. This is important because this is created as they scan each part so it is reflective of EXACTLY what you are getting;
7. the shipping details.
Many CSRs will tell you they are not aware of DOMS because they dont know how to use it. DOMS is only available for systems going through Texas.
Next, if you buy a system (somehow) in the US, the only way a warranty transfer can be done is if it is next business day on site repair. Thats the only one that transfers so if you get Complete care, you just waisted your money.
Having said this, I still know of not a single person to successfully buy a system in the States and have the warranty work in Canada. I know 3 that curse Dell when their systems needed warranty and they were denied.
And finally...the ESD means absolutely nothing and Dell is not bound by it. The good thing is, even with most M1330s the actually delivery date has been shorter than the ESD.
I have a M1330 enroute as of today that had an esd of mid October. -
-
Dells aim is to eliminate people buying from Canada or US then transferring the ownership ther, most likely because of cheaper pricing. Thats why with every Dell system comes an import/export caveat.
If you live in Canada but are in the US for school, they still want you to be a Canadian purchase and concessions for warranty are made.
Their goal as a company is to prevent competition with themselves (Can vs US). -
Keep believing! -
But for a second I thought that you were saying that any Canadian warranty isn't valid outside U.S. *fiew* -
-
I placed my order on august 15th and received it yesterday morning (august 28th). I took just under 2 weeks so i must say I'm quite happy (dell canada).
It's a Vostro 1400
T7100 1.8
2gb ram
160gb harddrive
8400m gs
wxga+
6cell
So far it's great, the screen look really nice. I'm impressed by the speakers sound quality. Haven't tried any games yet or the headphone jack. -
will keep you posted -
Just found out today my ESD has been pushed back two weeks from Sept 6 to sometime the week of september 17!!! This really pisses me off cause she told me that because i ordered a colour (JET BLACK) my notebook is delayed... last time i checked black wasnt a colour and it wasnt shown as delayed... even black is delayed... oh and she told me there was nothing she could do for me... not even next day shipping...
-
scary news mrGuy... CSRs have been quite consistent in telling me that either the LED screen or the slot-loading drive are the main reason why my system is delayed.. that i understand, but jet black being a cause for delay.. I don't give that much credit..I would say that person you talked to didn't give you the real reason.. either she didn't want to check or didn't know how to.. my opinion anyways
-
i really hope so man... i have yet to actually receive an email from dell telling me my notebook is delayed but i suspect they only send those out once your supposed ESD passes... the process of finding out the status of your notebook is ridiculous in Canada because not only does the website status not work... but your waiting on hold for 20 minutes just to find out information, which may or may not be true... but the real kicker is what she said at the end of the convo which made me laugh... "thank you for trying dell"
-
Find the right numbers during working hours...Ive yet to wait 20 minutes...
800-847-4096 1-2-1
Make sure the CSR you get understands and can use DOMS to get info on your system. -
lol what do i say when they get on? "can you use DOMS?" or is it short form for something else?
-
ya I think it stands for Dell Order Management System.. I used that number flamenko and waited a long time (less than 20 min).. didn't have the patience to wait longer though...so I hung up and went with chat..
-
ordered on 8/9 and still in the build stage with the LED screen backordered. esd is 9/14. we'll see about that
-
Well it seems like I'm one of the exceptions. I ordered my 1520 on August 21st and I don't have an ESD until September 27th, though a rep told me no parts on my order were back ordered and everything was in so it's being assembled. If that's the case would it seriously take a month?
I know I haven't been waiting that long but all these stories are scaring me! -
Yeah Blayze they're scaring me too.
Even though this comes up on my status page:

My ESD is still Sept. 3...so if it hasn't changed that must be a good sign right? I'm hoping with every bone and fiber in my body that it'll be here sometime this week.
****EDIT: I just noticed my ESD and EDD are the same...what is going on!?!?!?**** -
I ordered on August 13th, it shipped today (8/31), and EDD is September 5-7.

Ordered today

I've used the chat both times and the longest wait I had was 5 minutes and it has an estimated wait time, so that's nice compared to waiting on the phone. I think the downside of the chat is that it's easier for reps to say no to requests for credits or such if you have to wait. The upside is that they have been very polite to me, informative, and it's quick. People as a general rule don't like confrontation so you're more likely to get what reimbursements you want if you call.
It was the chat person who looked up my order and told me about no delays on the parts and everything was being assembled. I also have a copy of that chat so if I do get delayed I have a proof that I was told it was being assembled. Of course, the rep never changed my ESD (9/27) so it might be somewhat useless. -
I just had the most frustrating conversation with Dell Customer Service Chat.
I chatted in to find out about any delays with my order (see signature below). I was told that my order was estimated to ship on 09/04 and that Dell was working very hard to fulfill orders. Then I asked about any parts being backordered to which I was told that my Green lid was on backorder which would cause a delay. Fine, I say. Can I know the new estimated ship date of my order? He tells me 09/04.
ARGH!
We went in circles for about 10 more minutes (a glutton for punishment, yes I am), and I was told the same thing. Yes, my order is delayed. Yes, it is estimated to ship 09/04. I was like, fine. Give me your rep id and my case number. He did. Then he asks if he had resolved my issue? I gave him a simple No. He asks for feedback and I tell him that he has told me nothing of use during our chat. Then he wants to transfer me to his manager and I'm like, no thanks if he's going to waste my time like you did (said a little more nicely, but not much).
So now I wish I hadn't chatted in because I went in there a happy, if not tense, customer and came out frustrated beyond belief by their unwillingness to inform me on simple date.
I'm going back to sleep now. I have a tension headache.

Hello everyone, so I gave the waiting, frustration, anticipation a rest over the long weekend. and as I mentioned before, I just had a chat with a CSR to check my order status. the only thing I got is that the ESD is the 7th Sep. even though they told me in an e-mail it is updated to the 6th. One day apart...no problem at all.. so I pressed the CSR to give me more details regarding the exact stage of "production" and he/she said the following:
"for delayed orders, we can not access this information , not even using DOMS" ...to that I said : what a load of GARBAGE... in a more polite way of course. and I said I read many forums that say the DOMS can access these information ESPECIALLY for delayed orders. so they offered to inquire more and get back to me...
my ESD is a couple of days away, i will wait till then before I start to get on the "pissed-off" band wagon... hey SnowKarver ol'buddy ...what's happening with your order?? -
Boxing!!! Finally!!!
-
Hey hey. No movement on my order, and the estimated delivery date of Sep 7 is fast approaching. Since the latest status I got indicated that production isn't even scheduled to begin until that day, I'm not holding my breath.
I'm sick of dealing with Dell, so I'll just let it ride until Friday. If the order still hasn't budged as of the original EDD, I'll call and complain. Maybe at that point, I'd be deserving of a credit or a warranty upgrade or something.
I'll let you know how it goes. -
in boxing since this morning
-
Well, after seeing all the recent activity of 1330s going into boxing, I thought I'd take a chance and talk to a CSR.
Surprise!! Although I started with a downer and told her I expected my order to still be delayed for some reason, she said that it was actually on the way to Austin for imaging and consolidation, with an ESD from there in 2-3 business days, which would put it right on the September 7th I was getting a few weeks ago.
Since it takes about 4 or 5 days to linehaul to Canada and get on a local Purolator truck for delivery, both of us estimated that it should be delivered around the middle of next week. Given the atrocious delays that some people have been getting, I'm actually quite impressed - the order will have taken about a calendar month in total, with delivery less than a week later than the original EDD.
And I know she wasn't BSing me - I have a service tag number and configuration for my fresh new m1330! It's alive!
So Sam, you might want to check in with another Dell rep sooner rather than later. If they are adamant about your ESD being Sep 7, there is a good chance your machine is in the same batch as mine, on the way to Austin - and this race will be a tie if they're both sitting on the same northbound truck from Texas -
mine was ordered on 8/12 and is finally in the boxing stage!! yay!
-
-
Ordered my Inspiron 1520 on 8/6. Original ESD was today and according to Dell it's been in boxing (yea right....) since Monday. Just got an email delaying it for another week.
-
Ok so I guess I'm not so lucky, I sent an e-mail and got this back:
"Due to the production delays, manufacturing is receiving shipments at least weekly of the parts that they are missing. There are shipments expected of the parts needed on your computer on September 7 and 20. All Dell systems are built on a first-come, first-serve basis, but I am hoping that your computer will be getting parts from the shipment tomorrow. If this does happen, then your order will be shipping on approximately the 10th. Currently there is no way for us to tell which place in the queue your computer is"
inetersting stuff, should I believe this?? hmmm.. I think I'm gona call to try and verify this. -
Well, either it's T7500s (doubtful, since it's the 7300s that are running low), 120gb 7.2k drives, or your Wireless N card. Or else you just got unlucky and they ran out of black lids right after they did mine. Or they're waiting on LED screens. LOL.
Who knows. I hope you get your machine soon. -
its the LED screen actually. thats what he said but I didn't paste that in. so I tried calling... But I had no patience for a lengthy wait on the line so I hung up.. please post when your status shows "shipped" ..that will cheer me up..
-
I'm fed up of mine being in Pre-production all the time , nothing has happened to it since i've ordered , how long are/did you guys staying in pre-pro for?
-
As far as I know, you're only supposed to stay in pre-pro for a couple days at most, unless there is some kind of problem. -
Hell, my order for a few accessories (a mouse, transfer cable, and jump drive) has been in preproduction since August 6th. I'm not quite sure how accurate Dell's order status thing actually is......
-
Just sent an e-mail enquiring about it, I can't call now cause the line is closed, I really hope nothing is wrong with the order otherwise ill go mental
-
mine has shipped, tho it's saying the delivery date is 9/11-9/13 even when I have next day shipping!?! That's almost a week from now
-
Mine just shipped as well. So much for next day air...EDD is 9/11-9/13. I guess I shouldn't be complaining when others have waited much longer.
