Hi all,
I'm a bit confused about the different video cables available. I want to watch movies from my 1420 on my HDTV. However, the TV is a bit old.
The TV DOES NOT have VGA, HDMI (DVI)
The TV DOES have S-Video, Component, Composite.
So my question is, how can I get the best quality video on my TV?
My 1420 has S-Video and VGA outputs. But S-Video isn't very good quality right? And I'd need a separate cable for sound?
Thanks in advance,
Randy

Your laptop manual should cover all the connection possibilities. The best way would to be to pick up Dell's S-video to Component cable ($12)

That is cool I didn't know such a cable existed. Also the link you gave him says for the M1710. On Canada's website I found one that just says for Select Dell Systems. http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/TV_Accessories/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=310-9427
Not sure if it works with 1420 or not though. -
Hi,
I have an Insprion 1420 and a Toshiba Regza HDTV that I wish to interconnect. Here are the available options -
Notebook OUT: VGA, S-Video
TV IN: VGA, HDMI, S-Video.
In this case, what would be my best options to connect both Audio and Video on these two? I figured VGA might be better than S-Video, but then what exact cable should I be looking for to buy online? Also, what kind of Audio cable?
Thanks!

sdeshpan...the best option in your case would be VGA to the HDTV. You'll need a VGA cable to connect your 1420 to the TV and then depending on your TV's audio input mated to the VGA input you'll need a mini-jack to mini-jack audio cable or mini-jack to RCA. Most likely mini to mini is what you'll need. You will simply use the headphone output to get audio to the TV.
Best way to connect Inspiron 1420 to old HD TV?
